Assassin's Creed Mirage will feature microtransactions, but Ubisoft claims it will have no impact on gameplay and will be limited to cosmetic packs.
The game won't feature an XP-based leveling system as seen in recent games, nor will it include significant post-launch support through paid DLC or additional quests.
The extent of cosmetic bundles in Assassin's Creed Mirage remains uncertain, but it appears that Ubisoft aims to reduce the frequency of offering multiple packs compared to their past games.
Ubisoft has confirmed that microtransactions will be featured in Assassin's Creed Mirage. They have also provided some additional information regarding their plans for monetizing the game. The return of this controversial feature was initially leaked by a well-known Ubisoft dataminer in early August.
Despite Mirage's intention of paying homage to the original Assassin's Creed, which fans had hoped would exclude microtransactions, the developer has chosen to incorporate them. Microtransactions were first introduced to the series in 2012 with the release of its third numbered installment. Over the years, these post-launch monetization attempts have become increasingly aggressive, particularly after 2017's Assassin's Creed Origins transitioned the franchise to a full-fledged ARPG format. This resulted in gameplay that required more grinding, making paid shortcuts more alluring to players.
And though Assassin's Creed Mirage will also incorporate microtransactions, Ubisoft assures that the purchase of such additional content will not have any impact on the gameplay loop. In a statement provided to TrueAchievements, the company mentioned that microtransactions in the upcoming game will be limited to cosmetic packs, offering no advantage to player progression, and remaining entirely optional. The statement made no mention of the recent rumors surrounding real gambling in Assassin's Creed Mirage, which have predominantly surfaced due to the game's Xbox store listing that briefly references "paid contests" and wagering.
Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin's Creed Mirage will not feature the XP-based leveling system seen in the previous three mainline games. This indicates that players can look forward to a story-driven experience without the need for grinding or microtransactions to speed up progression. The game is also unlikely to include paid DLC quests, as Assassin's Creed Mirage will not receive extensive post-launch support. Ubisoft Creative Director Stephane Boudon has previously stated this. Although the exact number of cosmetic bundles in the game has not been specified by the developer, it is suggested that Assassin's Creed Mirage will reduce the amount compared to the previous entries in the franchise.
The Fire Demon Pack is currently the only known cosmetic bundle available online for the game. This pack, as revealed in the August leak, will include a flaming sword, a complete armor set, and a chamfron mask for horses. While the pricing for this bundle has yet to be disclosed, it is likely that, if Assassin's Creed Mirage follows the Helix Credits system of its previous installments, players can expect to spend somewhere between 500 and 800 credits for a single cosmetic pack. This translates to approximately $5 to $8. Assassin's Creed Mirage is set to release on October 12 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
