Star Wars Outlaws, the highly anticipated open world game, offers a refreshing departure from Ubisoft's recent Assassin's Creed titles by not demanding an excessive time commitment.Reassuring fans, the creative director guarantees that Outlaws delivers a captivating and immersive experience, allowing players to explore its intricate world at their leisure.
Star Wars Outlaws will have a smaller and more focused world size, similar to the previous games in Massive Entertainment's The Division series. The game's creative director has addressed expectations and concerns about the time commitment. Star Wars Outlaws is Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment's first open world Star Wars game. It was first revealed at Ubisoft Forward during the Summer Game Fest and follows the story of a scoundrel named Kay Vess as she navigates the crime-riddled underworld of the Star Wars universe between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
Ubisoft's recent Assassin's Creed games have seen a significant increase in both playtime and game world size. Assassin's Creed Odyssey takes around 45 hours to complete, while Valhalla takes a staggering 60 hours for the main storyline alone. Achieving full completion in these games would require over 100 hours each, excluding the extensive DLC expansions. This shift towards becoming RPGs has been met with mixed reactions from fans, with some appreciating the value for money while others finding the games overwhelming. Ubisoft seems to have taken this feedback to heart with their new release, Assassin's Creed Mirage, which promises to be smaller and more focused, reminiscent of earlier titles in the franchise. Concerns about Star Wars Outlaws, developed by Massive Entertainment, following the same path as Odyssey and Valhalla can be put to rest. In an interview with IGN, the game's creative director Julian Gerighty confirmed that while Outlaws will feature large open areas across various planets, it will not demand an excessive amount of time from players. This aligns with Massive Entertainment's previous games, The Division and its sequel, which also boasted smaller, denser, and more focused open worlds.
"Our goal is to immerse players in a captivating and intricately crafted open world adventure, allowing them to explore at their own pace. This is not a never-ending RPG that demands 200 or 300 hours of gameplay," stated Julian Gerighty, Creative Director of Star Wars Outlaws in an interview with IGN.
Just a few weeks after Gerighty's interview with Edge Magazine discussing Star Wars Outlaws and comparing its planet sizes to Assassin's Creed Odyssey's Greece, this reassurance addresses fans' expectations. It clarifies that while Outlaws may not match the scale of Bethesda's upcoming space-faring RPG Starfield, it could still be as large or even larger than Odyssey or Valhalla in terms of explorable land. Star Wars Outlaws, revealed last month, has become one of the most highly anticipated games of 2024. It's reassuring to see Gerighty ensuring that fans understand the game's scope and assuring them that it won't require as much time investment as some of Ubisoft's recent releases.
Star Wars Outlaws is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S in 2024.
