Looking for the "AppData" folder on your Windows 11 PC? It's a simple process that can be accomplished through two methods: using the Run dialog box or File Explorer.
Use Run to Find Windows 11’s AppData Folder
To access the "AppData" folder via the Run dialog box, simply open Run (Windows key + R), type "%appdata%", and hit Enter. From there, select "AppData" in the address bar to open the folder.
Alternatively, you can use File Explorer to access the folder. Click on the "View" tab, select "Hidden Items," and navigate to "C:\Users\[Your Username]\". The "AppData" folder should now be visible and accessible.
To do that, open “Run” by pressing Windows+R. Type the following in the open box and press Enter:
%appdata%
Once you have opened the File Explorer window, locate and click on the “AppData” option at the top.
This will give you access to the contents of the “AppData” folder. Within this folder, you will find three main subfolders: “Local,” “LocalLow,” and “Roaming.”
Use File Explorer to Access Windows 11’s AppData Folder
To access the "AppData" folder, there's another method that involves using File Explorer directly. You can begin by unhiding the hidden items in Windows 11's file manager, and then navigate to the path where the folder is located.
- Step 1: Unhide Hidden Items in File Explorer
To view the hidden “AppData” folder, you must first enable the display of hidden items in File Explorer. Start by opening a File Explorer window using the Windows+E shortcut.
Once the window is open, navigate to the “View” menu located at the top of the window.
From the “View” menu, click on the “Options” button, then select “Change folder and search options” from the drop-down menu.
In the Folder Options window that opens, select the “View” tab.
Scroll down until you find the “Hidden files and folders” option.
Select the “Show hidden files, folders, and drives” option, then click “Apply” and “OK” to save your changes.

You can now view the previously hidden “AppData” folder in File Explorer.
In the menu that opens, choose Show > Hidden Items.
File Explorer now displays your hidden items.
- Step 2: Access the AppData Folder
Now that you can see the hidden items in File Explorer, let’s get to the “AppData” folder.
Navigate to the "C:\Users" path by launching a File Explorer window and proceed to double-click the folder associated with your account name.
Once you've accessed the folder, locate the "AppData" folder. This folder is hidden, as indicated by its semi-transparent icon.
To access Windows 11's "AppData" folder, simply double-click the folder and view its contents. As you explore this folder, take the opportunity to customize your experience by disabling check boxes in File Explorer or setting a keyboard shortcut to open a specific folder. These simple tweaks can greatly enhance your overall user experience.
