Diablo 4's first season is approaching, while new players and dedicated fans continue to discover the depths of Sanctuary. The upcoming seasons will bring new content to the game, but exactly what that will be remains unknown. Once the first season is over, players will likely have a better idea of what to expect in the future.
One possibility for Diablo 4's seasons is to incorporate content from previous games that didn't make it to the final version. There are numerous features from past games that didn't make it into Diablo 4, but it may still be possible for some of these to be reintroduced.
Diablo 4's Missing Features
Additional PvP modes, such as an arena, could have addressed the issue of imbalance in Diablo 4's PvP. The absence of level-based and party-size matchmaking criteria results in a lack of protection for under-leveled players. At max-level, players have access to full Paragon Boards, Skill Trees, and valuable loot, further exacerbating the imbalance. Despite this, Blizzard has chosen to maintain their current form of PvP, citing its chaotic nature and the inherent risks it presents.
Gear sets were highly anticipated by players for Diablo 4, as they were a prominent feature in Diablo 3. However, the developers have stated that they do not intend to include them in the new game. In Diablo 3, equipping two or more pieces of gear from a set would grant players increased benefits. Additionally, players had the option to mix and match different sets. Without gear sets in Diablo 4, players have greater freedom in their buildcrafting, as they are not confined to specific molds or templates.
Cursed Gear in Diablo 2 is a loot tier that resembles gear set items, but with both positive and negative effects. To utilize the positive effects, players must combine two or more pieces with the same effect, while the negative effects stack regardless. However, in Diablo 4, Blizzard developers have decided not to bring back Cursed Gear to prevent imposing restrictive limitations on playstyles and builds.
Charms
In Diablo 4, developers have made it clear that the charm items from Diablo 2 will not be making a comeback. These items provided players with different stat bonuses simply by being in their inventory. However, since there were no limits on how many charm items players could have, it significantly limited the amount of inventory space they had. To address this, Diablo 4 has decided to exclude charms, allowing players to focus more on engaging with the game content and less on managing their inventory in social spaces.
Instant Dungeon Resets (from the beta)
During the Diablo 4 betas, players faced several limitations that restricted their progress. However, there were also certain elements that expedited the gameplay. Notably, in the Diablo 4 betas, players were provided with the ability to instantly reset Dungeons upon finishing them. Nevertheless, Blizzard, now that the full game is released, has decided to remove this feature. The rationale behind this decision is to encourage players to explore and complete new dungeons instead of repetitively farming specific ones.
Map Overlay
Although this feature may seem like a minor improvement in comparison to the other absent features, it holds significant importance as it is one of the most frequently requested by the community. Previous Diablo games allowed players to view the map while simultaneously engaging in combat and exploration. However, in Diablo 4, players are currently forced to choose either one or the other.
Diablo 4 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
