With this year's E3 being canceled once again, many of the larger game publishers have had to find alternative ways to showcase their upcoming projects. French publisher Ubisoft has decided to host their own event, titled Ubisoft Forward, which will give them the chance to feature several high-profile titles from their catalog. While the last Ubisoft Forward in September 2022 focused mainly on the upcoming Assassin's Creed Mirage, which is set to release in October 2023, the upcoming event will shine a spotlight on other major projects as well as some surprises that might be in store.
Ubisoft has a vast array of franchises under its belt, and while Assassin's Creed is arguably the most popular, the publisher has plenty of other successful series, including Far Cry and Watch Dogs. Though neither of these series is thought to have active projects in development at this time, the showcase will still feature a couple of other Ubisoft projects. Fans can expect to see the highly anticipated Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, as well as The Crew Motorfest, the third game in The Crew series. Additionally, the event will reveal the first look at the upcoming Assassin's Creed Nexus VR, the franchise's first venture into virtual reality. The trailer for the event also hints at the inclusion of another mystery title, which has led to plenty of speculation from eager fans.
Ubisoft Forward Will Showcase Several High-Profile Games
Ubisoft has six new Assassin's Creed games in the works, but only Mirage and Nexus are expected to be showcased. Fans are particularly curious about Nexus, as it has been excluded from the list of headsets the game will be playable on, potentially indicating a surprise reveal. However, this omission could also be seen as another setback for the long-term prospects of PSVR2. Meanwhile, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which was announced in 2017, will also be featured at Ubisoft Forward. While official news has been scarce, developer Massive Entertainment confirmed via Twitter that the game is still in development. However, given that the company is currently seeking a VFX artist to join the team, it's unlikely that the game will be released in 2023.
The Crew and its sequel, released in 2018, are open-world racing games that have garnered a loyal following, but have not quite won over critics. While the details of the third installment are scarce, it has been confirmed that it will maintain the open-world style and take place in Hawaii, potentially giving it a Forza Horizon feel. Fans have speculated that the mystery game could be anything from an unnamed Star Wars project to The Division 3 or Beyond Good and Evil 2.
However, there is always a risk of over-hyping these showcases, which can lead to disappointment when the event fails to meet unrealistic expectations. This was the case with the recent PlayStation Showcase, which left many questions unanswered and was underwhelming for some. Despite this, fans are still eagerly anticipating what Ubisoft Forward has in store.
