With just under a month remaining in Season 5 of Blizzard's hero shooter, Overwatch 2, fans eagerly await the upcoming sixth season in August. However, there is still exciting content to look forward to in the coming weeks, including the highly anticipated Mischief and Magic game mode. Additionally, the ongoing Summer Games have made a return and are currently playable.

Although Season 5 may not have introduced many new maps or heroes, it has been praised for its exceptional balance. The developers have made very few patches, as the game is considered to be in a good state. Despite this, certain heroes possess more powerful kits and receive higher rankings, but players with exceptional skill can still excel with lower-tier heroes.

S-Tier

Ever since the introduction of Ramattra as the newest tank, he has captivated lobbies with his impressive abilities. Similar to Reinhardt, Ramattra excels in close-quarter combat but has the advantage of being effective at a longer range with his Void Barrier. Additionally, Ramattra possesses a Nemesis form that provides him with a valuable 225 hp of armor. This armor can be used strategically to disengage from a fight or apply pressure to the opposing team. In terms of his ultimate ability, Annihilation, although it may not be as powerful as it once was in Season 2, it proves particularly useful in overtime situations and for zoning areas.

Moving on to other heroes, both Ana and Tracer have high skill ceilings and perform well in various team compositions. Tracer's Pulse Bomb is a formidable weapon, and skilled players can quickly charge her ultimate by effectively landing shots. Similarly, Ana's Sleep Dart and Biotic Grenade are regarded as two of the best support abilities in the game. While Kiriko's protection suzu has the ability to cleanse a target, its cooldown is longer compared to Ana's.

A-Tier

In this patch, the characters have been well-balanced, particularly with the buffs to Mei and Cassidy in Overwatch 2. These two heroes are now solid choices with their hindering and slowing abilities. Sniper characters have been nerfed, allowing Soldier: 76 to shine as he can deal significant damage without the fear of being instantly eliminated. Other consistently strong DPS heroes include Hanzo, Ashe, Reaper, Pharah, and Symmetra. Symmetra has received a buff that allows her to dispatch vulnerable enemies with a fully charged burst shot. When it comes to tanks and support characters, Sigma, Reinhardt, and Junker Queen excel, especially on Circuit Royale. If it were still Season 4, Junker Queen would be considered S-Tier. Baptiste, Kiriko, and Mercy are also well-suited for this patch due to their kits, which enhance their survival chances in team fights.

B-Tier

There are many B-Tier heroes in Overwatch 2, which is ideal for balancing the hero shooter. It's best to have characters that are not placed too high or too low. Junkrat, Bastion, Genji, Torbjorn, and Sojourn are viable options, but Genji synergizes well with Ana, and Sojourn performs better when supported by a Mercy pocket. A highly mobile Junkrat can be formidable, and his spam damage has the potential to secure crucial eliminations. Bastion is effective at breaking barriers and mowing down the enemy team, although his turret form can be easily countered.

Brigitte, Lucio, Moira, and Zenyatta are support heroes who can excel in specific situations. Brigitte is often paired with Ana to counter dive compositions. Lucio shines in rush comps due to his speed boost, while Moira can deliver substantial damage and healing. Zenyatta recently received a nerf to his Discord Orb, but he is still a reliable source of damage output.

C-Tier

, Orisa, and Zarya are categorized as situational tanks, yet they excel on almost every map. D.Va proves to be invaluable in dominating the elevated positions on Numbani, Junkertown, and Dorado. On the other hand, Orisa and Zarya display great proficiency in prolonging their survival by effectively managing their abilities.

Six heroes find themselves in a difficult position, with Widowmaker feeling the effects of her weakened one-shot capability and no increase to her health points. A Sombra rework is anticipated to arrive in Overwatch 2 shortly after Season 6, making the hacker DPS excel in capable hands. Amidst the challenges of countering Pharah, players can turn to Echo, although using her effectively requires a higher level of mechanical skill and a good understanding of other heroes in the game, especially when it comes to executing an impactful ultimate ability.

For tanks,

D-Tier

excels with his ultimate ability, Primal Rage, and his ability to hold high ground. However, D.Va has an advantage over him due to her re-mech ability, which allows her to sustain herself for extended periods. In addition, Doomfist is plagued by several known bugs that still need to be resolved. While Wrecking Ball thrives in overtime situations or with a well-coordinated team, he now needs to exercise caution with the reintroduction of crowd control features into the game.

Roadhog and Lifeweaver are the two heroes who are most in need of help. Lifeweaver has seen some improvements since his release, making a case for him being in a better position. Although his healing stats have increased, Lifeweaver's Tree of Life still has room for improvement, and his damage output remains lower compared to other support heroes. Unfortunately, Roadhog mains will have to wait until "Season 7 or beyond" for any rework, as mentioned in the Overwatch 2 content roadmap.

As updates are released, the list for Season 6 of Overwatch 2 will likely undergo adjustments. The introduction of the new Flashpoint game mode may potentially create its own distinct meta. It is still premature to determine which heroes will dominate, but it is anticipated that the overall meta will remain relatively stable since developers typically avoid making significant changes all at once.
