Explosive Overwatch 2 Moment Unveils Cassidy's Unbelievable Grenade Power

Overwatch 2 fans express discontent over Cassidy's grenade adjustments as a video showcases its remarkable long-range tracking capabilities, fueling the debate further

A recent update for Overwatch 2 has sparked controversy among fans due to several bold changes, particularly focusing on Cassidy's reworked sticky grenade. One notable clip has caught attention, demonstrating how the grenade can now track targets around corners from astonishing distances. Despite the ongoing debate surrounding Cassidy's new ability, Blizzard has surprisingly chosen to enhance its power in response to the extensive feedback from players.

Having replaced Cassidy's original flashbang grenade with the revamped sticky grenade in Overwatch 2, fans have gradually become accustomed to its presence. While it no longer possesses the ability to stun enemies, the weapon now offers the advantage of sticking to targets over a moderate range and inflicting substantial damage. Its previous tracking capabilities had already provoked frustration among many players, but at least it was limited to a maximum travel distance of 10 meters. However, Blizzard has made significant adjustments by substantially extending both the grenade's travel distance and its tracking capability. Additionally, the introduction of the "hindered" status effect causes targets to experience reduced movement speed upon impact.

Players are already sharing videos showcasing some unbelievable moments involving Cassidy's reworked grenade. One particular video, posted on Reddit by user jvilla225, demonstrates the grenade's impressive tracking abilities as it homes in on an enemy player over a distance of at least 20 meters. Not only does it reach the player's location, but it also takes a sharp turn to pursue them as they retreat through a doorway. Many other Overwatch 2 players have captured similar moments, comparing the grenade's amusing tracking mechanics to those found in comical cartoons.

However, the changes to Cassidy's grenade not only provide entertainment but also frustration, especially due to the new "hindered" status it inflicts. This debuff significantly reduces movement by 30% for a brief period and temporarily disables a target's movement abilities. As a result, it becomes nearly impossible for opponents to escape once they are stuck. This poses a significant challenge for dive heroes in Overwatch 2 and makes the lives of tank players, who often find themselves on the front lines, even more difficult than before.

The Season 5 update of Overwatch 2 has introduced a resurgence of crowd control (CC) mechanics beyond just the sticky grenade. CC, which refers to abilities that hinder movement, has been a topic of intense discussion within the Overwatch 2 community. While it seemed that limiting crowd control abilities was one of Overwatch 2's objectives, Blizzard has seemingly reversed this decision by significantly enhancing the slow effect on Mei's weapon in Season 5. Regardless, fans have wasted no time expressing their dissatisfaction with these changes, with many urging the developers to revert the modifications made to Cassidy's grenade.

Overwatch 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
