Unleashing the Power of Dual Protagonists in Spider-Man 2

Discover the seamless transition between Peter Parker and Miles Morales in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, as Insomniac Games unveils how character switching works during story missions and free exploration

In Marvel's Spider-Man 2, players will have the ability to switch between Peter Parker and Miles Morales. Both Spider-heroes have their own web-swinging adventures and will be playable characters in the game. Fans have been curious about how Insomniac would handle the shifting between the two during battles to protect New York City from villains like Venom and Kraven the Hunter. During the recent PlayStation Showcase livestream, Insomniac revealed potential character-switching mechanics through a new Spider-Man 2 trailer. The trailer features Peter in his new Symbiote costume as he takes down Kraven's minions, followed by a button prompt that shifts control to Miles as he searches for Dr. Connors in Harlem.

Players will have the opportunity to manually switch control between Peter and Miles in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, as confirmed by recent announcements. The game's story will have moments where Spider-Men will change, according to creative director Bryan Intihar, but players will also be able to switch between the two heroes while exploring the open world of New York City. Certain sidequests and other content will be specifically designed for either Peter or Miles, making the experience unique for each character.

Insomniac has shared that players will be able to switch between Peter and Miles during freeform exploration in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. However, during story missions, players will be locked to one Spider-Man. This feature will tie into the game's three skill trees, offering unique abilities for each character. The developers wanted to provide players with a sense of familiarity while allowing for flexibility in upgrading their movesets. Additionally, Peter and Miles will each have their own sidequests and secrets to uncover, adding an exciting new element of replayability to the game. When asked about the possibility of other characters appearing in the game, Insomniac declined to comment.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 launches this fall, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
