Players of Diablo 4 are becoming increasingly frustrated with the current state of Nightmare Dungeons. They are demanding changes to make the experience less tedious. The endgame in Diablo 4 is not popular among the community, with many believing that Nightmare Dungeons and Helltides are inferior to the Greater Rifts seen in Diablo 3. While the combat and gameplay foundation is solid, fans feel that the surrounding systems need improvement. If the developers follow the roadmap they outlined during the Campfire Chat on June 16, Diablo 4 has the potential to become an exceptional game by the end of the year.
Diablo 4 dungeons have previously been criticized for being lackluster and unimaginative. They often have repetitive layouts, limited objective variety, and lack a distinctive identity. In comparison to the Greater Rifts in Diablo 3 or the dungeon maps in Path of Exile, many players feel that the Nightmare Dungeons in Diablo 4 were merely an afterthought, prioritizing quantity over quality.
The recent criticisms of Nightmare Dungeons in Diablo 4, posted by Karol123G on the game's subreddit, focused on the negative affixes of the current system. While it seems logical for Nightmare Sigils to have penalties for players, providing an additional challenge alongside increasing enemy difficulty, the problem lies in the fact that many of these affixes make combat in Diablo 4 less enjoyable.
These affixes include resistance to critical strikes, defense against melee attacks, depletion of a class's valuable resources, and for certain classes or builds that heavily rely on these elements for damage or survival, it feels excessively punishing. Players believe that this kind of challenge isn't fun or interesting to deal with.
Furthermore, Nightmare Dungeons offer magic find bonuses that, in practice, don't significantly enhance the gaming experience. As a result, players experience burnout much faster compared to the Greater Rift grind in Diablo 3.
While the solution to Nightmare Dungeons may not be straightforward, players are expressing a desire for more diversity and fewer drawbacks. With Diablo 4 planning to release two expansions and introduce new content every quarter through its seasons, the lack of variety should improve as the game evolves. However, Blizzard will need to carefully examine the balancing of its affixes. Diablo 4 can be played on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
