Unleashing the Next Level: How Windows 11 Raises its Game with iPad Inspired Features

Despite being around for almost two years, Microsoft is not done introducing changes and new features to Windows 11. As a result of this, one of the best stylus features found on the iPad is now making its way to Windows 11 computers.

The latest Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23481 is now available for Windows Insider program members in the Dev Channel. This update promises to enhance Windows Ink's accuracy when converting handwriting to text and introduces a new scratch out gesture for making edits. Users can now easily write words and sentences with their PC's stylus, which will be converted to text in the selected text field. According to Microsoft, the aim of Windows Ink is to enable users to use their pen and handwrite anywhere they would normally type on their Windows device. Although this feature has been around since the Windows 10 April 2018 update, the update now brings broader handwriting support. While Windows applications usually only support text input with handwriting if they are built with the Universal Windows Platform (which is now defunct) or if they incorporate the necessary code for ink input, the latest update promises to change that.

The Apple iPad tablets have long supported handwriting text input across a wide range of apps when used in conjunction with an Apple Pencil or other compatible stylus, such as the Logitech Crayon. With the latest updates to Windows 11, it appears that Microsoft is following suit, bringing handwritten input more in line with the iPad's capabilities. This is a particularly exciting development for PCs that support stylus input, as it could prove to be a highly useful feature. Although there is currently no confirmed timeframe for the changes to roll out to all Windows 11 PCs, users will be able to customize their settings from the "Pen and Windows Ink" section under "Bluetooth and devices" in the Settings menu.
