Highlights
Baldur's Gate 3
The game offers a wide selection of twelve classes, each with its own set of subclasses, allowing players to explore various options and experiment. Although Larion Studios originally mentioned that the game would not have DLC, they are receptive to player input and may introduce new subclasses in the future.
Players are eagerly anticipating the addition of several desired subclasses in Baldur's Gate 3. These include the Twilight Domain Cleric, Chronurgy Magic Wizard, Oath of Conquest Paladin, Hexblade Warlock, Fey Wanderer Ranger, Shadow Magic Sorcerer, Way of Mercy Monk, College of Eloquence Bard, Path of the Ancestral Guardian Barbarian, Swashbuckler Rogue, Circle of Stars Druid, and Samurai Fighter.
Baldur's Gate 3 already offers an impressive selection of twelve classes for players, each with a minimum of three subclasses to choose from. The Cleric class, in particular, offers a total of seven subclasses at the start of the game. These subclasses grant unique abilities and allow players to explore different playstyles as they progress through Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3).
12 Twilight Domain Cleric
Despite the abundance of options currently available, some players remain hopeful that additional subclasses will be introduced to the game as downloadable content (DLC) in the future. Although Larion Studios has previously stated that DLC is unlikely for the game, they have expressed openness to player feedback and the inclusion of more content in the CRPG. Undoubtedly, these new subclasses would be the most desirable additions to the game.
In Baldur's Gate 3, the Cleric class offers a wide range of subclass options for players to select from when beginning their adventure. However, there has been a desire among some players to see the inclusion of the beloved Twilight Domain in the game.
11 Chronurgy Magic Wizard
- The Perfect Choice for a Selune Cleric: A subclass that captures the essence of Selune's influence, the Twilight Domain is particularly suitable for Selune clerics due to its strong connection to both the concept of nighttime and the moon. Beyond its role-play potential, Twilight Domain clerics possess an array of impressive spells, including the remarkable Faerie Fire even at the initial level. Furthermore, at the third level, these clerics gain the ability to perceive invisibility—a feat typically reserved for those who acquire Volo's counterfeit eye.In BG3, the Wizard class offers an extensive range of subclasses for players to choose from. While players can already select any school of magic, the remaining subclasses introduce unique battle mechanics. By specializing in the Chronurgy school, players gain enhanced control over the battlefield.
Firstly, Chronal Shift, a prominent feature, grants players the ability to make a reroll for a character of their choice after the initial roll. This remarkable capability can be utilized for the player themselves, an ally, or even an opponent. Unlockable at the second level, Chronal Shift holds immense power. As the player progresses, its potency increases, allowing them to temporarily remove an opponent from battle or enhance their own initiative, consequently ensuring their likelihood of always going first.
10 Oath Of Conquest Paladin
In addition to the standard three subclasses, Paladin offers a unique class option with a total of four subclasses, including three dedicated oaths. However, there is a fourth alternative for those who have deviated from the established code of conduct they are supposed to uphold, known as the oathbreaker.
9 The Hexblade Warlock
Although the three available oaths can be incredibly powerful options, the Oath of Conquest raises the bar for Paladins in combat. The features and abilities of this oath instill fear in the eyes of the opponents, including Conquering Presence, a circular AOE Fear spell, and access to exclusive Warlock spells like Armor of Agathys.
Choosing Pact of the Blade already grants players significant power, but when combined with the Hexblade subclass, melee combat becomes even more thrilling. With access to an expanded spell list, Hexblade Warlocks can deal even more devastating damage compared to the typical Eldritch Blast.
Combining this feature with Hex Warrior also enables Warlocks to don medium armor and wield a shield, allowing them to confidently join the ranks of other melee classes without the constant threat of annihilation.
8 Fey Wanderer Ranger
It appears rather solitary that the Warlock stands as the sole class in Baldur's Gate 3 with a tether to the realm of the Fey during gameplay. Introducing the Fey Wanderer Ranger subclass would significantly augment the opportunities for players to immerse themselves in the enchanting realm of Fey magic.
7 Shadow Magic Sorcerer
Fey Wanderer Rangers prioritize enhancing their magical abilities by increasing their Wisdom, rather than solely relying on archery skills like typical Rangers. Dreadful Strikes, a notable feature, empowers players with the ability to inflict amplified damage on adversaries, without any cost.
While there are already three deadly options available for Sorcerers in BG3, many players often yearn for the opportunity to explore amazing alternative choices in Baldur's Gate 3. One such option is the Shadow Magic Sorcerer, which grants the player the power to harness darkness and summon a fearsome Hound of Ill Omen. By utilizing this creature as a diversion, they can effectively continue launching sneak attacks from the safety of the shadows.
6 Way Of Mercy Monk
Despite the maximum level being level twelve, Shadow Magic fails to fully utilize its two most outstanding attributes. Nevertheless, Larion possesses the potential to transform the Shadow Magic Sorcerer into an exceptionally formidable magical practitioner, adept at manipulating shadows.
While the Monk class in Dungeons and Dragons Fifth Edition has often been overlooked, Baldur's Gate 3 has revitalized its appeal, offering an enjoyable gameplay experience. As a result, many players find themselves intrigued by the possibility of exploring alternative subclasses. Among the limited options for healing classes, the Cleric stands out as one of the most potent. However, the Way of Mercy Monks present a unique blend of martial arts expertise and the ability to inflict harm or administer healing, depending on the situation.
5 College Of Eloquence Bard
Monks possess the ability to utilize Hand of Healing, which mirrors the effects of Cure Wounds. While it can be employed during combat, it is more advisable to utilize it once the battle has concluded. Additionally, Monks also possess the capability of executing Hand of Harm, which is equally potent as an unarmed strike but demands the expenditure of a Ki point.
The College of Eloquence in Baldur's Gate 3 diverges from other Bard subclasses by returning to the fundamental aspects of the class. Its central emphasis lies in the potency harnessed within Bardic Inspiration.
College of Eloquence is equally formidable in non-combat scenarios as it is on the battlefield, thanks to its remarkable abilities. One such feature, known as Silver Tongue, instantly upgrades any persuasion or deception roll below nine to a guaranteed ten. When combined with the extraordinary power of Unfailing Inspiration, players are less inclined to restart situations when things go wrong and gain additional confidence in utilizing their inspiration to aid them in various circumstances.
4 Path Of The Ancestral Guardian Barbarian
Among the diverse options available to Barbarians, subclasses like Wildheart or Wild Magic have captured the attention of many players. Nevertheless, choosing the path of the Ancestral Guardian can transform a Barbarian into an unrivaled defender rather than solely focusing on offense.
Features such as Ancestral Protectors are likely to provoke an enemy into engaging with the Barbarian, as attacking anyone other than the Barbarian will result in half the damage being dealt, with an added disadvantage. Similarly, Spirit Shield, much like a standard shield, can shield an ally from incoming attacks, requiring only a reaction to activate.
3 Swashbuckler Rogue
Despite Baldur's Gate's proximity to the sea and the existence of a pirate-themed tavern that players can explore, it is unexpected that the Swashbuckler subclass has not yet been incorporated into Baldur's Gate 3.
Although the three existing subclasses for Rogue possess immense power, there persists a longing among numerous players to embody the persona of a merciless pirate through the assistance of the Swashbuckler subclass. The remarkable capability of Fancy Footwork resembles that of a Cunning Action Disengage, allowing players to launch attacks upon two adversaries based on their weapon of choice, while simultaneously swiftly evading any potential counterattacks.
2 Circle Of Stars Druid
The Circle of Stars Druid, similar to the Circle of Spores, boasts an essential feature known as Starry Form that serves as the primary motivation to opt for this particular subclass. Outside of utilizing Starry Form, the class operates much like a standard Druid.
While utilizing the Starry Form ability, players have the option to enhance themselves through their Wild Shape instead of transforming into an animal. In this form, players can select from three different Constellations, each offering improved abilities in terms of damage, healing, or casting. As players progress in level, the influence of these Constellations grows even stronger.
1 Samurai Fighter
The Fighter class possesses a strong offensive nature, and the introduction of a subclass like Samurai enhances their ability to inflict maximum damage from the very beginning of each battle. Upon acquiring the Fighting Spirit feature, players who have chosen the Samurai subclass are encouraged to utilize this bonus action at the start of every encounter.
Using the Fighting Spirit ability grants the player a strategic edge during each attack roll until their subsequent turn. Upon reaching level ten, players unlock the Tireless Spirit feature, which provides them with one additional usage of Fighting Spirit when rolling for initiative. In the event that the player has exhausted their supply of Fighting Spirits, they will consistently engage in combat from the outset.
Baldur's Gate 3 is currently available for PC, MAC, and PlayStation 5, with the release date for Xbox Series X|S still to be confirmed.
