Persona 5 Tactica and Persona 3 Reload Continue the Series' Consistent Release Trend
Persona 3 was a game-changer for the franchise, establishing a formula that future entries would follow. It also gained popularity, leading to annual releases. Persona 3 FES and Persona 4 were released in Japan in the years following Persona 3's release in 2006. In 2009, a remake of the original Persona and Persona 3 Portable were released for the PlayStation Portable in Japan, with the latter making its way to North America a year later.
The success of these titles opened the floodgates for a series of remakes and spin-offs. Persona 2: Innocent Sin received a PSP remake in 2011, followed by Persona 2: Eternal Punishment in Japan in 2012. From 2012 to 2016, the series maintained consistent yearly releases, including Persona 4 Golden in 2012, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax in 2013, Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth in 2014, and Persona 4: Dancing All Night in 2015. Finally, Persona 5 was released in Japan in 2016.
When Persona 5 was released globally in 2017, it received widespread acclaim and hinted at a future of even greater growth for the series. This led to the introduction of several spin-off titles, such as Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight, Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight, and Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth, all of which were released in 2018. The following year, an enhanced version of Persona 5, known as Persona 5 Royal, was released in Japan, with an international release in 2020. The series showed no signs of slowing down, as Persona 5 Strikers was released in Japan and worldwide in 2021.
While the year 2022 saw a lighter release schedule for the series, it did witness the arrival of Persona 5 Royal on the PC, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S. On the other hand, 2023 has been a significant year for the series with the arrival of ports of Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden on modern platforms, as well as the upcoming release of Persona 5 Tactica later this year. The future appears promising for Persona fans, with Persona 3 Reload set to arrive early next year. While Persona 6 may still be a few years away, the consistent release schedule of the series suggests that there will be plenty of titles for players to eagerly anticipate in the meantime.
Persona 3 Reload will be released on February 2, 2024 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
