The Boys, originally a comic book series created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson in 2006 and concluded in 2012, gained widespread recognition through Amazon's live-action adaptation in 2019. The show's immense success has made The Boys one of the most sought-after superhero properties, even attracting attention from Call of Duty: Warzone.
Call of Duty: Warzone has established itself as a top-tier live-service game, alongside Fortnite and Apex Legends. Despite the brand's strong appeal, Warzone has actively pursued collaborations. While some crossovers align with current trends, others involve characters from bygone eras that hold iconic status but lack relevance. The most recent crossover in Warzone seamlessly combines both elements, bringing The Boys into the spotlight. If this collaboration proves successful, it could mark the beginning of further superhero crossovers in Call of Duty: Warzone.
Call of Duty's The Boys Crossover Could Just Be The Start
The video game Call of Duty: Warzone has featured a variety of crossovers in recent years. These have included skins inspired by popular franchises such as Rambo, Die Hard, Donnie Darko, Attack on Titan, and Godzilla vs Kong. While these skins have been of high quality, they have not always been the most relevant crossovers. Surprisingly, Warzone has not yet incorporated any collaboration with superheroes, despite the genre's current popularity. The closest they came was a crossover with Umbrella Academy, albeit without representing any of the Academy members.
However, the tide is turning as Call of Duty: Warzone has unveiled its first-ever superhero collaboration. In the coming week, players can expect the release of three new skins based on The Boys characters: Starlight, Homelander, and Black Noir. These skins will come with unique weapon blueprints, a distinctive finishing move, a weapon charm and sticker, an emblem, and a loading screen.
But the crossover between Call of Duty: Warzone and The Boys goes beyond simple cosmetic additions. With the release of Season 4 Reloaded update, players can temporarily acquire superpowers in the battle royale mode by finding a vial of Temp V. These superpowers, including Charge Jump, Electric Shockwave, Laser Vision, and Teleport, function as Field Upgrades and remain with the player for the entire match once used.
This collaboration exemplifies the willingness of Call of Duty: Warzone to explore larger-scale partnerships that extend beyond basic skin offerings. It may also signal the beginning of more superhero crossovers in the game. Another potential franchise to collaborate with Warzone in the future could be Invincible, considering its adult-oriented themes and visual style as an Amazon show. The likelihood of this collaboration could be further increased if rumors prove true, and Omni-Man becomes a guest character in Mortal Kombat 1.
Although Marvel and DC typically prefer family-friendly crossovers like Fortnite, there are certain characters that could align with Warzone's more violent content. Characters like Deadpool or Wolverine from Marvel, as well as Batman or Joker from DC, would be fitting additions to the game.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
