Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Tetsuya Nomura confirmed that the final game in the trilogy will connect with the movie Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children.
The trilogy is undergoing modifications to the original game, placing greater emphasis on smaller components. Consequently, its integration with Advent Children is yet to be determined.
The conclusive segment of the trilogy and its correlation with Advent Children may not see the light of day until several years from now, potentially around 2027 or 2028.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Tetsuya Nomura recently disclosed that the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy will be connected to Advent Children at its conclusion. There have been various intriguing details emerging about the trilogy, such as the immense file size of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. This latest update will undoubtedly delight fans of the 2005 movie.
Released in 2005, Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children served as a continuation of the original game's storyline. It took place two years after FF7, featuring Cloud's return to action as he confronts new adversaries while investigating a mysterious illness afflicting children. Advent Children even received a 4K remaster in 2021.
Now, Tetsuya Nomura, the director overseeing the Final Fantasy 7 remake project, has confirmed to The Guardian that the trilogy's third installment will intertwine with Advent Children by its conclusion. Notably, as Nomura previously helmed Advent Children, it is not surprising that he would take an interest in linking these narratives. Despite delving into Final Fantasy 7's inspiration and design extensively during the interview, Nomura remained enigmatic about this connection, withholding further details.
The trilogy is taking significant liberties to alter Final Fantasy 7 in multiple ways, while also giving more attention to previously overlooked aspects of the game. It remains uncertain how these changes will ultimately connect to Advent Children. For example, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will allow players to control Sephiroth for an extended period in certain parts of Nibelheim, in contrast to the original version where this was a brief section.
Although Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is scheduled to release early next year, the final installment of the trilogy and its connection to Advent Children may still be a long way off. Recently, the Square Enix developers disclosed that they have begun outlining the story for the third game in FF7's remake trilogy, but only the first part has been completed thus far. Considering that Final Fantasy 7 Remake came out in 2020 and the second entry in the trilogy is not expected until 2024, it is not unreasonable to anticipate the trilogy concluding around 2027 or 2028.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will launch on February 29, 2024 for PS5.
