Xbox mistakenly shared an image featuring Final Fantasy 7 Remake characters, leading fans to speculate about an Xbox release, but it was just an error.
Despite not being currently available on Xbox, fans of Final Fantasy 7 Remake still hold onto hope for a potential release on the platform. While there have been indications of future collaboration between Xbox and Square Enix, the game can currently only be accessed on PC, PS4, and PS5.
Xbox is retracting its earlier statement after an official social media account shared an image that hinted at the availability of Final Fantasy 7 Remake on the platform. Xbox Brazil's Father's Day post featured a screenshot showing Final Fantasy 7 Remake's character Barrett with his adopted daughter Marlene. This led some fans to speculate about a possible future release of the game on Xbox. However, this is not the case at the moment.
The highly anticipated Final Fantasy 7 Remake was officially launched on April 10, 2020, for PlayStation 4, followed by a release for PlayStation 5 on June 10, 2021. A PC version of the successful action RPG was subsequently released on December 16, 2021. There have been no announcements for an Xbox version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake or its Intergrade expansion. In fact, Microsoft has accused Square Enix of entering into a deal with PlayStation that prevents the inclusion of Xbox support for Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
Despite the slim chance of Final Fantasy 7 Remake arriving on Xbox platforms, fans remain hopeful. The official Xbox Twitter account shared a Father's Day post featuring nine screenshots of various video game character fathers, one of which included Barrett from Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Despite the excitement stirred among fans who speculated that this could be a hint of the game's release on Xbox, the company has since confirmed that the image was mistakenly posted.
According to Xbox, the image was mistakenly posted and removed because it featured a title not available on Xbox. It seems that the Xbox employee responsible for the Father's Day post may have chosen those screenshots without realizing that the game featured in the image was not available on Xbox. They might have been a fan of Final Fantasy 7 Remake or simply unfamiliar with the game and its characters. In any case, it was an error.
However, this setback will not discourage fans from requesting the port of Final Fantasy 7 Remake to Xbox. Understandably, Xbox users want all major releases on their platform, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake is no exception. As long as fans continue to demand the game on Xbox, Square Enix will likely feel increasing pressure to bring it to the platform.
Square Enix's increased support for Xbox in the coming years is already being suggested. Xbox executive, Phil Spencer, recently joined forces with Square Enix CEO, Takashi Kiryu, to declare the inclusion of Final Fantasy 14 on Xbox Series X/S. This announcement served as a teaser for future collaborations between the two entities. However, as of now, there are no plans for Final Fantasy 7 Remake and its forthcoming sequel, Final Fantasy 16 Rebirth, to be supported on Xbox.
Currently, Final Fantasy 7 Remake can be enjoyed on PC, PS4, and PS5.
