Activision has released the gameplay trailer for the highly anticipated open-world Zombies mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. This was showcased at the recent Call of Duty Next event, which also provided additional details on the game's multiplayer features and other updates.

Introduced in the 2008 title Call of Duty: World at War, the Zombies mode quickly became a fan favorite and was eventually integrated into subsequent games. Although the Zombies mode was absent in the 2019 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and the 2022 Modern Warfare 2, it is making a comeback in Modern Warfare 3 with an exciting open-world twist. Activision has reassured fans that some of the beloved core Zombies features will remain intact, as Treyarch collaborates closely with Sledgehammer Games to ensure proper implementation. The developer has now unveiled a sneak peek of the open-world Zombies gameplay.

The Zombies trailer for the Call of Duty Next event provided extensive information about the mode's setting, vehicles, weapons, and enemies. Players can expect to utilize various vehicles from Call of Duty: Warzone, such as a glowing motorcycle, and equip themselves with Juggernaut armor to combat the undead. To enhance the open-world gameplay, players can team up with other squads, increasing their chances of survival. The setting for this mode is the newly introduced Call of Duty: Warzone map called Urzikstan. The trailer also showcased an array of new weapons, including the iconic Ray Gun, which can be obtained from the Mystery Box. Alongside the regular undead enemies, players will face a colossal three-headed monster capable of shooting laser beams out of its mouth.

Activision has confirmed that the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Zombies mode will continue the Dark Aether storyline. Familiar character Victor Zakhaev emerges as the mastermind behind the zombie outbreak, and Task Force 141, led by Soap and Kate Laswell, is entrusted with containing the situation. However, the exact location of the outbreak and Zakhaev's motives remain a mystery, with hopes that the game's story will unveil these details as it progresses.

In addition, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will introduce Open Combat Missions, providing players with a fresh perspective on the game's campaign. Activision has brought back beloved features such as slide cancel and red dot mini-maps, which have been highly praised by fans. Additionally, the game includes the Carry Forward system, enabling players to transfer their progress from Modern Warfare 2 to Modern Warfare 3.

Scheduled for release on November 10, 2023, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
