In Baldur's Gate 3 Patch #3, Larian Studios introduced the "Magic Mirror" feature, expanding the range of character customization options. Players can now modify their character's visual aspects, voice, and pronouns post-character creation. This guide will provide instructions on locating and utilizing the Magic Mirror.
How to Find the Magic Mirror in BG3
To alter their character's appearance during gameplay, players must locate the Magic Mirror. This enchanting artifact becomes accessible at the camp once Patch #3 has been installed. In the typical camp found outdoors, the mirror can be discovered within a small ruined fort in a secluded corner of the camp.
In alternative camp layouts, such as those accessed in dungeons or in the Underdark, the Mirror will still be available but in varying locations. For instance, in the dungeon/ruins camp, the mirror is likely situated in one of the side rooms accessible through the doors on either side of the camp.
How to Use the Magic Mirror (& What it Can't Change)
After finding the magic mirror, players can use it to customize their currently controlled character. It is important to be aware that, according to the patch notes, "Origin Characters, Hirelings, and Full Illithids" are unable to utilize the Magic Mirror. This means that players are unable to modify the appearance of Origin characters and more.
Furthermore, players should take into consideration that while they can change their appearance, genitalia, and pronouns, they are unable to modify their chosen race/subrace and body type. Additionally, the developers have emphasized that the Mirror cannot revert cosmetic changes that occur during the course of the story, such as losing an eye to a hag. Therefore, players are free to alter their character's appearance, but they cannot reverse the consequences of their actions.
Players must exercise caution when engaging with individuals who have the potential to permanently harm their characters, such as causing irreversible alterations or even the loss of an eye, as the Mirror will not be able to reverse such transformations. Baldur's Gate 3 is currently accessible on PC, Mac, and PS5.
