Summary
Tom Cruise's Jack Reacher: Never Go Back ranks as the number one movie on Netflix on September 11 and 12 after climbing up the ranks last week.
The film is an adaptation of Jack Child's source material and functions as a follow-up to the popular 2012 film, Jack Reacher. However, considering the sequel's underwhelming reception, Cruise is unlikely to reprise his role in the franchise due to his busy schedule and the recasting of the character for the Reacher Prime Video series.
According to recent data, the movie Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, starring Tom Cruise, has claimed the top spot on Netflix's top 10 movie rankings. This film is based on the books written by Lee Child, and Cruise initially portrayed the main character in the 2012 movie Jack Reacher, which received mostly positive reviews and was successful at the box office. However, its 2016 sequel didn't fare well critically or commercially.
Interestingly, FlixPatrol reveals that Jack Reacher: Never Go Back has now reached the number one position on Netflix, on both September 11 and 12, after steadily climbing through the ranks in the past week. Surprisingly, The Grinch from 2018 holds the second spot, while You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah takes third place. The original 2012 Jack Reacher movie falls to fourth place.
Will Tom Cruise Ever Return To The Jack Reacher Franchise?
While the first Jack Reacher film was a surprisingly effective crime thriller, it didn't quite reach the heights of Cruise's recent efforts in the Mission: Impossible franchise. However, the sequel, directed by Edward Zwick, was a noticeable step down in terms of quality and failed to stand out among other mid-budget action thrillers.
Considering the disappointment of the sequel, it seems unlikely that Cruise would be willing to give it another go. Additionally, the actor is currently occupied with finishing the filming of Mission: Impossible 8 for its planned release next year. Not only that, Cruise has ambitious plans to venture into outer space with director Doug Liman and SpaceX to shoot a movie beyond Earth's atmosphere. Moreover, Child's character continues to thrive in the form of Prime Video's Reacher, with actor Alan Ritchson taking on the role.
The series has been highly popular with both audiences and critics, and the second season of Reacher is set to release on the streaming platform later this year. Ritchson revealed that he wrote a letter to Cruise after taking on the role, but his team advised against sending it. They suggested that Cruise supported the show but wanted to move on from the franchise. Although Cruise may not reprise his role as the former U.S. Army MP in the near future, now is a perfect opportunity to watch Jack Reacher: Never Go Back on Netflix.
