Unearthing Danny Masterson's Chilling Interview: The Haunting Warning That Foreshadowed His Downfall

Ominous foreshadowing? Resurfaced interview between Conan O'Brien and Danny Masterson gains significance amidst the actor's ongoing legal battle

Summary

An old interview with Danny Masterson on Late Night with Conan O'Brien has resurfaced, taking on a more ominous tone in light of his recent conviction for rape.

Masterson's current legal issues originated from criminal activities that took place more than twenty years ago, resulting in his conviction and sentencing following allegations made in 2001 and 2003.

During the interview segment, an uneasy interaction is evident between Masterson and Conan, as Conan bluntly remarks, "I'm well aware of your reputation, and it's only a matter of time before you face the consequences."

A recently resurfaced archived clip of an interview between Conan O'Brien and the actor Danny Masterson takes on a chillingly prophetic quality. Masterson, famed for his role in That '70s Show, faced charges of rape in 2020, and has since been found guilty on two counts. As a result, he has been sentenced to a minimum of 30 years in prison, with the possibility of a life sentence.

The 36-second clip posted by @WUTangKids begins innocently, with O’Brien playfully teasing Masterson about his lack of Long Island accent. Masterson proceeds to share a joke from one of his friends, saying, "Hi, my name is Danny Masterson, would you like to touch my balls?" Conan questions him about this remark, later adding, "I've heard things about you, and you’ll be caught soon." Given Masterson's convictions, the clip carries an uncomfortable undertone.

Masterson's legal issues stem from offenses committed more than twenty years ago. He stands accused of sexually assaulting a woman in 2001 and two additional women in 2003. The allegations of rape against Masterson were officially made in 2017, which subsequently resulted in three rape charges being filed against him. Of the three cases, he was convicted and sentenced in two.

These allegations had a direct impact on Masterson’s career. Following the accusations in 2017, United Talent Agency terminated their representation of him, and he was subsequently fired from his role on the TV show The Ranch, which he had previously starred in alongside Ashton Kutcher. Masterson was also excluded from the returning cast of That ‘70s Show spinoff revival, That ‘90s Show.

Even prior to his formal conviction, That ‘90s Show made the wise decision not to associate Masterson with his previous role as Hyde in That ‘70s Show. In the wake of the #MeToo movement shedding light on unacceptable behavior, Masterson’s interview serves as a reminder of the backward understanding that still existed regarding sexual harassment, even relatively recently.
