A glitch in Baldur's Gate 3 allows players to turn a mid-game boss, Balthazar, into a sheep, making the battle easier and more amusing.
The glitch can be activated by using Polymorph on Balthazar in the initial chamber of the Gauntlet of Shar, resulting in the sheep form persisting in all subsequent cutscenes of the game.
This glitch can be taken advantage of to defeat Balthazar at an earlier stage, thereby bypassing a more difficult battle later on in the game.

A recent glitch in Baldur's Gate 3 has made a mid-game boss considerably less intimidating for one player. While this glitch adds to the game's list of known bugs, it's more amusing than harmful.
Warning! Spoilers for Act 2 of Baldur's Gate 3 ahead. In the middle of the game's second act, players will encounter a creepy character named Balthazar. Throughout various locations, players have multiple opportunities to face this boss, but all of these encounters are typically difficult battles. Balthazar, a level 8 Necromancer with a group of undead monsters, is often considered the toughest challenge in this stage of the game's campaign.
However, Reddit user mist1e recently uncovered a method to diminish Balthazar's menacing presence in both combat and presentation in Baldur's Gate 3. By utilizing Polymorph on the Necromancer in the initial chamber of the Gauntlet of Shar, where Balthazar is encountered, they found surprising results. The surrounding NPCs were unaffected by Balthazar transforming into a sheep and, even after the player cleared the room, the necromancer remained in his wooly form beyond the usual duration of four turns.
Intrigued by this unexpected occurrence, the fan decided to save their progress and continue following Balthazar's storyline after wiping out his minions. The glitch persisted throughout the Gauntlet of Shar, resulting in comical scenes of a foreboding sheep maintaining its plot to abduct Nightsong in subsequent cutscenes within this location.
The boss finally regained his strength towards the end of this section of the quest, prompting players to reload their previous save and defeat the unsuspecting sheep in its original location. This is a much easier task compared to having to face Balthazar later on in the second act of Baldur's Gate 3, as the fight becomes more difficult with each delay.
Regarding the cause of this glitch, it seems that only the final Balthazar cutscene in the Gauntlet of Shar can remove his Transmutation status effects, which should ideally happen at the beginning of every dialogue. Even if Larian addresses this issue in a future update, using Polymorph as a tactic to initiate the boss fight in Baldur's Gate 3 would still be a clever approach. Usually, the encounter starts with Balthazar casting Haste on himself and inflicting significant damage before players have a chance to react, but as a sheep, he is unable to do so.
Baldur's Gate 3 is out now for PC with a PS5 version coming September 6 and an Xbox version also in development.
