Xbox Game Pass has been delivering a great lineup of games in recent months, including titles like Starfield and Payday 3, and shows no signs of slowing down.
The absence of horror games in the October 2023 lineup for Xbox Game Pass is disappointing during the spooky season. Although there are already horror games available on Xbox Game Pass, fans might be seeking fresh experiences like the remakes of Resident Evil or the Dead Space remake.
Xbox Game Pass has shown remarkable progress in recent months. Widely regarded as an exceptional gaming deal since its launch in 2017, Xbox Game Pass has made significant efforts to prove its worth. After a relatively quiet summer, the service gained momentum in August with the inclusion of notable titles like Sea of Stars and Texas Chain Saw Massacre. By the time September arrived, Xbox Game Pass was firing on all cylinders, offering highly anticipated games such as Starfield, Lies of P, Party Animals, Payday 3, and many others.
The success of Xbox Game Pass continues unabated, with no signs of slowing down. The already impressive October 2023 line-up consists of eight games, including notable hits like Cities: Skylines 2, Gotham Knights, and Forza Motorsport. While this diverse array of genres and experiences will surely keep players engaged throughout the month, there is one glaring absence. Unfortunately, October, the spookiest season, lacks a game of the horror genre in Xbox Game Pass' roster.
Xbox Game Pass' October 2023 Line-Up Is Missing Any Spooky Games
Xbox Game Pass has confirmed eight games for October, covering a diverse range of genres such as racing, turn-based strategy, farming sims, city-management, and party games. However, the absence of horror games in their October 2023 line-up is disappointing for the spooky season. The closest thing to a horror game offered by Xbox Game Pass in October is Warhammer 40K: Darktide, a 4-player horde game with plenty of gore and eerie enemies, but it falls short of being a full-on horror video game.
Luckily, Xbox Game Pass already boasts a decent collection of horror games for fans to enjoy this Halloween. Both of Tango Gameworks' Evil Within titles and the original Dead Space games are available on Game Pass through backwards compatibility. For those seeking multiplayer-focused horror games, Xbox Game Pass offers Dead by Daylight and Back 4 Blood. And if players want to truly experience fear in October, Game Pass has all the Amnesia games at their fingertips.
However, avid horror enthusiasts may have already experienced the majority of these games and are yearning for a fresh and terrifying encounter. Xbox Game Pass has the potential to expand its collection by introducing numerous exceptional horror games. The addition of any of the new Resident Evil remakes or the recent Dead Space remake would be truly remarkable for Xbox Game Pass subscribers this October. Additionally, including the original Alan Wake game would be a fantastic addition, especially considering the release of its sequel at the end of the month.
Given that October is commonly associated with the horror genre, it is somewhat disappointing to observe that Xbox Game Pass appears to have overlooked this theme for the year. Even PlayStation Plus has embraced the spooky season by offering The Callisto Protocol as one of the free games in its Essential tier. Nevertheless, there is still ample time for Xbox to rectify its oversight. With the month only just beginning, there is plenty of opportunity for Xbox Game Pass to introduce fresh and captivating horror experiences to its platform.
