A treasure hunter found a huge gold nugget in England, believed to be the biggest one ever discovered in the country.
Richard Brock unearthed the gold nugget, weighing 64.8 grams (2.3 ounces), in the Shropshire Hills near the Wales border, according to auction house Mullock Jones.
The nugget, known as Hiro's Nugget, is about the size of a 50 pence coin in the UK.
It is estimated to have a value between £30,000 ($38,000) and £40,000 ($50,700) by Mullock Jones, a company based in Shropshire that is responsible for selling it.
Brock seemed to have bad luck when his equipment almost failed him during the dig. When he got to the site in Shropshire in May, he found out that his metal detector was faulty, as mentioned in a press release from Mullock Jones.
He felt discouraged as his hopes faded, so he decided to try using an older piece of equipment. Initially, all he uncovered was a coin with little worth, but to his surprise, within just five minutes he stumbled upon a remarkable discovery, according to the auction house.
The ruby, named Estrela de Fura, has been described as “exceedingly rare.”

Brock mentioned in the release that being attentive and aware of what may be hidden beneath the surface is more important than the equipment used while walking over the find.
Auctioneer Ben Jones of Mullock Jones referred to the nugget as a "rare find" and stated that its arrival at the dig site remains a mystery.
Parts of the Shropshire Hills used to be covered by an ancient ocean, and coral fragments are frequently discovered there, as mentioned by the auction house.
According to auctioneer Jones, the area also includes traces of a former road or railway line, along with remnants of Welsh stone, providing a range of potential explanations for their presence.
The auction ends April 1.
Although Hiro’s Nugget is believed to be the largest discovered so far in England, several previous finds in other parts of the United Kingdom dwarf it in size.
The record holder is the 121.3-gram [4.3 ounces] Reunion Nugget, found in Scotland in 2019.
