West Ham bolster their midfield by securing a £30m move for Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse, a free-kick specialist who notched 11 goals last season despite their relegation The Hammers kick off their season against Bournemouth on Saturday

James Ward-Prowse has completed his £30m move from Southampton to West Ham.

The midfielder brings to an end a 20-year spell on the south coast, having joined Southampton from the age of eight.

Ward-Prowse made an appearance in Saints' first Championship match, providing the assist for Che Adams' decisive goal against Sheffield Wednesday. However, he was not included in the squad for the 4-4 draw with Norwich on Saturday, as he had already finalized his transfer to West Ham. Initially, the Hammers had withdrawn from the deal in early August after presenting a final offer, but they resumed negotiations and eventually secured the signing of the midfielder.

Ward-Prowse has amassed 410 appearances for Southampton's first-team, netting 11 goals in all competitions in consecutive seasons for the Saints. However, despite his contributions, the team was unable to avoid relegation from the Premier League last season.
