Chelsea have submitted a £48m bid for Romeo Lavia, indicating a potential acceleration of negotiations with Southampton within the next 24 hours. Although it is anticipated that the offer will be turned down as Southampton stands firm on their £50m valuation, the proximity in value suggests the possibility of ongoing discussions between the two clubs.
Liverpool have had three unsuccessful bids for Lavia during this summer, with the most recent offer being valued at approximately £45m.
As the transfer window approaches its end, Chelsea is aiming to secure the signings of two midfielders. Additionally, they have expressed interest in acquiring Moises Caicedo from Brighton and Tyler Adams from Leeds.
Lavia has four years left on his Southampton contract after joining from Manchester City last summer.

Carragher expressed his disappointment with his former club's business approach on social media, following their unsuccessful third bid worth £45m for Lavia.
"Liverpool has been known for swiftly and smoothly finalizing deals for years," the pundit wrote on platform X. "If you don't believe he is worth £50m, it's best to move on. However, if you genuinely desire his services, then pay the asking price."
"Furthermore, I don't understand why Liverpool isn't pursuing Caicedo. While it may require a significant investment, the club has already earned substantial amounts from the transfers of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho."
Leading up to the upcoming Premier League season, starting with Liverpool's match against Chelsea on Sunday, which will be broadcasted live on TV, Gary Neville added his opinion in response to his fellow pundit.
"Do you finally acknowledge that Klopp has protected your owners for the past five to six years?" Neville inquired.
Carragher retorted, "Gary, you are completely unaware of the situation at Liverpool! The owners have implemented a self-sufficient strategy which Klopp embraced, resulting in extraordinary accomplishments!"
