Three individuals perished and over twelve others sustained injuries in a blaze that swiftly engulfed a Brooklyn brownstone residence in the early hours of Sunday, as stated by New York City fire officials.
According to a spokesperson from the New York City Fire Department, firefighters were alerted to the incident at approximately 4:30 a.m. in Crown Heights.
"We came across a three-story building engulfed in flames across all three floors," stated John Esposito, the Chief of Fire Operations, during a press conference.
As confirmed by the fire department, three individuals in critical condition were transported to the hospital, where they were later pronounced deceased.
Fourteen individuals sustained injuries in the fire, as mentioned by Esposito. Additionally, a firefighter suffered a serious injury but was transported to the hospital and is expected to recover, according to Esposito. The fire operation was described as highly challenging and perilous.

A total of 138 first responders rushed to the scene of the blaze, which proved to be quite "time-consuming" to put out, according to the official. The fire department stated that they managed to gain control over the fire approximately two hours after receiving the initial call.
As of now, the cause behind the fire remains undetermined.
