The president of the board of the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue in downtown Detroit, Samantha Woll, was discovered dead on Saturday morning outside her residence, suffering from multiple stab wounds, according to the police. The synagogue confirmed the news in a Facebook post.

The Detroit Police Department released a statement saying that officers responded to a report of an unresponsive person lying on the ground on Saturday morning. Upon arriving at the scene, they followed a "trail of blood" that led them to Woll's residence.
Police suspect that the crime occurred within the confines of her residence. Wolls' lifeless body was discovered by officers, with numerous stab wounds, and she was subsequently declared deceased at the location, according to authorities. The Detroit Police Department stated that its homicide unit has been entrusted with the task of investigating this particular case.
In a statement on Saturday, Police Chief James White confirmed that the stabbing incident is currently undergoing a thorough investigation, and the motive behind it remains unknown.
White acknowledged the multitude of unanswered questions stemming from the crime, stating, "Naturally, this incident raises numerous uncertainties." He emphasized the ongoing investigative process and urged everyone to practice patience as the authorities meticulously analyze every piece of available evidence.
White urged the community to be patient while the authorities conduct their investigation. "We should refrain from jumping to conclusions until all the relevant facts have been carefully examined," stated White. Additionally, officials have announced their intentions to disclose further information regarding the investigation on Sunday.
The FBI in Detroit is providing assistance to the police in the investigation, as stated in a statement to CNN. Additionally, Governor Gretchen Whitmer has assigned the Michigan State Police to support the local law enforcement officials involved in the investigation.
Expressing her condolences, Whitmer stated, "I am deeply saddened for her family, friends, synagogue, and all those fortunate enough to have known her. She was a shining example, actively contributing to her community and striving to improve the state of Michigan."
Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan expressed that Woll's passing has created a significant void within the Detroit community. Duggan shared in a statement that he and Woll recently celebrated the restoration of a synagogue, highlighting their connection.
"It was a project she successfully led with great pride and enthusiasm," Duggan said.
"This entire city joins with her family and friends in mourning her tragic death," the mayor added.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel expressed her sympathies through a Facebook statement, describing Sam as an exceptionally kind person driven by her genuine love for her community, state, and country. A former coworker, who had collaborated with Wolls on Nessels reelection campaign in 2022, described her passing as a heartbreaking tragedy, noting their five-year friendship.
According to MoReno Tayor II, Sam exuded brightness wherever she went. She had a radiant smile and would light up every room she entered. Moreover, she was known for her firm handshake. Expressing his distress, MoReno hoped for a swift resolution and the identification of the person accountable for this unfortunate situation.
Woll had previously collaborated with Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin, as mentioned in a social media post by Slotkin.
The congresswoman expressed that Woll had devoted her brief life to fostering interfaith comprehension and illuminating the world amidst challenging times.
The Democrat stated that Woll had supported her by assisting in establishing and managing the office during her initial term.
"I am deeply saddened by the loss of someone who was so devoted to serving others in such a pointless incident. I will miss her unwavering commitment to service and her radiant smile that seemed to be present everywhere in the Detroit area," expressed the congresswoman.
