Lil Tay, the renowned social media sensation and rapper, has tragically passed away.

The news of her demise was conveyed on Wednesday, August 9th, through an Instagram statement believed to be posted by her family. Furthermore, her family confirmed the heartbreaking loss of her brother, Jason Tian.

"We deeply regret to inform you about the sudden and tragic demise of our dear Claire. It is with great sadness that we share this devastating news, as no words can truly convey the overwhelming loss and indescribable pain we are experiencing. The suddenness of this event has left us all stunned and in disbelief. Furthermore, the passing of her brother intensifies our grief to an unimaginable extent."

Although the cause of their deaths has not been disclosed, the statement acknowledges that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding Claire and her brother's untimely passing.

"We humbly request privacy as we mourn this profound loss during this period of immense sorrow," the statement conveyed. "Claire will forever hold a special place in our hearts, and her absence creates an irreplaceable emptiness that will be deeply felt by everyone who knew and cherished her."

In response to We's inquiry, Lil Tay's management team expressed their confirmation of the statement with deep regret.

Lil Tay, also known as Claire Eileen Qi Hope, gained fame in 2018 for her explicit videos, frequently featuring her flaunting bundles of money. Initially, she asserted to be 9 years old, but a 2019 article from New York magazine revealed that she was actually 10 when her videos started to garner attention.

Lil Tay's presence was short-lived as she vanished almost as quickly as she emerged, less than a year after making her debut. The statement on her Instagram came after her last post on the platform, which was shared in June 2018.

In 2018, a post was uploaded by an unidentified user alleging that Tay's father, Christopher John Hope, had been abusive. The person, who claimed to be a former colleague of Tay, stated that he had banned her from social media out of fear that she would expose the truth about his actions for which he had not faced any consequences.

The post was subsequently removed and Chris Jones, who identified himself as a manager for Tay's music, stated that the account had been "hacked" by an unknown individual. He informed The Verge that neither he nor anyone else currently had access to that account.

Three years later, Tay's deceased brother, Tian, initiated a GoFundMe campaign with the aim of raising funds for his sister. On the fundraiser's page, he expressed, "From April 23, 2021, Lil Tay will embark on a battle for her life, future, and freedom." Tian asserted that Tay urgently required financial support to combat the abuse inflicted upon her by their father, which had resulted in her experiencing a state of depression.

Previously, fans had suspicions that Tian was providing guidance to his younger sister during her video recordings, as an unaired clip suggested that someone was feeding her lines from behind the camera. Following the video's sudden popularity, Tay appeared to halt her posting activities.

In June 2018, her account shared a tribute to the late rapper XXXTentacion, whom Tay described as “a father figure, when I don’t have one.”
