Tori Spelling's Protective Stance Amid Dean McDermott's Rages and Outbursts

Tori Spelling is prioritizing her five children with estranged husband Dean McDermott following his surprising statements about the end of their marriage.
“The interview caught Tori by surprise,” a source reveals in the most recent edition of We magazine. "It revealed a lot of private details about their family. Tori has always been very protective of the kids, especially considering Dean's angry outbursts."
McDermott, 57, finally spoke out about his divorce from Beverly Hills, 90210 alum in a raw and honest interview with Daily Mail, published earlier this month. In the interview, McDermott admitted that his excessive drinking was the main cause of the breakup. (McDermott initially revealed his split with Spelling in June in an Instagram post that has since been deleted.)
"Alcohol made me feel better, like I was enough. It started out that way until it got to a point where it didn't — it led to isolation," he shared with Daily Mail. "I ended up drinking a fifth of tequila every night, seven days a week, and taking a handful of prescription medications alone, while my beautiful family was in the other room."
Following a push from Spelling, McDermott made the choice to address his substance abuse problems and is currently residing in a supportive men's group home. A source shared that Spelling is supportive and proud of her estranged spouse for seeking the necessary help. Another source revealed that McDermott's alcoholism battle had been more severe than anyone realized, with the insider noting that he was deeply entrenched in his addiction.

McDermott admitted to the Daily Mail that he had combined alcohol and Ambien pills when he made his divorce announcement "hoping that [he] wouldn't wake up."
During his treatment, McDermott has stated that he has not seen his five children with Spelling - Liam, 16, Finn, 10, Beau, 6, Stella, 15, and Hattie, 11 - since his time in rehab. (McDermott also has a son, Jack, 25, from his previous marriage to Mary Jo Eustace.)
Spelling has not publicly responded to McDermott's claims, and sources have indicated that a reconciliation is unlikely.
“Dean and Tori tried,” the insider adds. “Ultimately, they just want each other to be happy.”
