Tori Spelling is revealing the reasons behind her oldest son Liam's recent foot surgery. Liam fell down the stairs at home, causing a fractured navicular accessory bone in his right foot. As a result, the bone needed to be removed and his tendon reattached to his main bone with a metal hook rod. Spelling shared this information via her Instagram Stories on Thursday, December 14.
Spelling shared that her 16-year-old son fell down the stairs six weeks ago and hadn’t shown any signs of healing, so they sought professional help. She then thanked her followers for their well wishes.
She mentioned that Liam had a successful surgery and expressed gratitude to Dr. Gifford, their foot and ankle surgeon, as well as the team at Thousand Oaks Surgical Hospital. Additionally, Liam received a visit from the family’s long-time pediatrician, Dr. Saul, whom Spelling referred to as "part of our family" in her Instagram Story. Spelling added, "The recovery process has begun. It’s going to be a long journey, but we are taking it day by day."

The Beverly Hills, 90210 actress initially shared her love for Liam on Wednesday, December 13, as he headed into surgery.
"My first baby is about to undergo foot surgery and I'm not sure who's more nervous, him or me," the actress shared on Instagram. Despite her own anxiety, Spelling commended Liam's bravery, saying, "Proud of your courage @liammcdermott and things can only improve after this."
Liam is the oldest of Spelling's five children with estranged husband Dean McDermott. They also co-parent daughters Stella, 15, and Hattie, 12, and sons Finn, 11, and Beau, 6. McDermott also has another son, Jack, 24, from a previous marriage to Mary Jo Eustace.
Spelling and McDermott, 57, have been experiencing a rough patch in recent months. In June, McDermott took to Instagram to announce that he and Spelling were parting ways. (He later deleted the post.)

During a November 15 interview with the Daily Mail, McDermott disclosed that he had spent 40 days in rehab during the summer and was currently residing in a sober home with eight other men. He also mentioned that he had not seen Spelling or his children since making a post on Instagram about his marriage, and admitted to attempting to end his life that evening.
"’After I sent the post, I took some more pills, and I took six or seven Ambien in the hopes that I would not wake up. Thank God I did. Because I would’ve ruined so many lives if I had died," he shared in the interview.
