Top Fast Food Chain Unveils Epic 6-Part Anime Ad Series

McDonald's delights fans with their heartwarming nothing-special happy times ad series, perfectly blending slice-of-life anime charm with their fast-food experience

The creator of the McDonald's anime series, "Night Mac," expressed gratitude towards fans and the production team for their support throughout the six-part advertising campaign.

Since its release in September, McDonald's recent ad series has successfully captivated fans. The initial video, featuring a family enjoying a McDonald's meal, set the tone for the rest of the series. These slice-of-life anime vignettes portrayed "nothing special happy times" and elicited a sense of wistful nostalgia. The videos appealed to a wide market demographic, depicting various scenarios such as a family, a group of friends on a road trip, teenage friends, a young couple on a date, siblings sharing a snack, and a girl relaxing on a lazy afternoon. The creator of the clips confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that the sixth video serves as the concluding installment of the series.

McDonald's Captures Slice-of-Life Anime Snapshots

I have once again created the advertising video for McDonald's 'Night Mac Potenage'! This video concludes the Night Mac anime series that I have been working on since September. I want to express my gratitude to everyone who watched it and all those involved in the production! Thank you so much!! Uraura Ura-chan mentioned in an X post, accompanied by a series of emojis depicting steak and a ringed planet. The animator successfully captured the essence of enjoying life's simplest moments in these short clips, which are presented without any captions or dialogue. These looped videos would seamlessly blend in as backgrounds for any of LoFi GIRL's (formerly ChiledCow) YouTube streams.

The ad series titled "Night Mac" provides a glimpse into the slice-of-life genre of anime. Similar scenes can also be found in Studio Ghibli's Ocean Waves, My Neighbors the Yamadas, Whisper of the Heart, and From Up on Poppy Hill. Slice-of-life anime typically showcases normal individuals in ordinary situations, navigating the ups and downs of everyday life. This popular genre in anime often incorporates humor or coming-of-age stories.

McDonald's has a rich history of collaborating with anime franchises, primarily in Japan. Besides running promotional campaigns featuring anime such as Fist of the North Star, the company has creatively adapted its menu to promote manga and anime franchises. The Happy Meals have frequently featured the Pokémon franchise, and McDonald's even introduced burgers and sandwiches inspired by Mobile Suit Gundam's Red Comet. The "Night Mac" ad series has gathered a substantial following, and it would not be surprising if McDonald's commissions Uraura Ura-chan to create more slice-of-life advertisements in the future.

McDonald's dropped its first clip of the "Night Mac" ad series on X on Sept. 20, 2023, with the sixth and final clip of the series premiering on Nov. 5.

Editor's P/S

As an anime fan, I'm really excited about McDonald's new ad series. The ads are beautifully animated and capture the essence of what makes anime so special. The stories are heartwarming and relatable, and the characters are likable and endearing. I especially appreciate the fact that the ads don't rely on dialogue or captions to tell their stories. Instead, they use the power of animation to create a visual experience that is both immersive and engaging.

Overall, I think McDonald's has done a great job with this ad series. The ads are sure to appeal to anime fans of all ages, and they may even inspire some people to try McDonald's for the first time. I'm looking forward to seeing more ads from this series in the future.
