The Voice Behind Gamora: Unveiling the Actress

Discover the intriguing voice behind Gamora in What If Season 2! Uncover the mystery of who lends their talent to this beloved Guardian of the Galaxy in the Disney Plus series

Who will be voicing Gamora in the Disney Plus series What If Season 2, bringing back a Guardian of the Galaxy to the MCU? Gamora made her debut in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy, getting into fights with Peter Quill, Rocket, and Groot, and wrestling with her adopted sister Nebula, all while trying to secure an orb containing an Infinity Stone.

Zoe Saldana has consistently portrayed the character in the MCU live-action appearances, her latest in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In this movie, she splits with her team, and opts to join the Ravagers, a decision influenced by the fact that the version of her they knew no longer exists. The future of these characters is uncertain, especially since director James Gunn has moved to DC. However, the What If series opens up the possibility of exploring alternative realities, including the potential return of Gamora.

Who voices Gamora in What If Season 2?

Gamora is voiced by Cynthia McWilliams in What If Season 2.

McWilliams played the character in Episode 4 ("What If... Iron Man Crashed into the Grandmaster), and also provided the voice in the Season 1 finale.

While some cast members have returned to their roles from the movies and other TV shows in What If, others have been replaced. This could be due to budget limitations and scheduling conflicts - in Saldana's case, she will be occupied with James Cameron's Avatar sequels for the near future.

In a previous interview with Variety discussing "following in Saldana's footsteps," McWilliams expressed, "My primary task is often to develop a character from scratch and envision something. This particular role was overwhelming. I mean, come on. We all adore Zoe Saldana and the Marvel characters so much. I believe the only thing that made it a bit easier for me is that I am a huge Marvel fan. So yes, I definitely felt some pressure, but I also had confidence in the fact that I knew Zoe's voice, Gamora's wry sarcasm, her well-earned sense of superiority as a skilled warrior, and the dynamics of her relationship with her less than beloved father. All of these were aspects that I felt strongly connected to and familiar with, so if anything, it was a challenge, but it was also incredibly enjoyable."
