Highlights
The Dragon Ball franchise has achieved immense success across various industries, including manga, anime, merchandise, and video games.
Dragon Ball Super maintains the allure of the original series by introducing formidable new characters such as Cumber.
Cumber, an exceedingly dominant Saiyan warrior, possesses an astonishing level of destructive force, ranking him among the most powerful individuals in the Dragon Ball universe. It is worth noting, however, that he is not considered part of the official canon of Dragon Ball Super. Consequently, unless the creator chooses to incorporate him into the canon, fans may not witness his presence in the official storyline of Dragon Ball Super.
The Dragon Ball franchise has achieved tremendous success both commercially and critically, elevating itself to an all-time beloved anime franchise. It not only encompasses manga and anime series, but also extends to various industries such as merchandise and video games like Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi series.
Continuing the legacy of the original Dragon Ball series, new installments like Dragon Ball Super (DBS) and canon movies like DBS: Super Hero have further contributed to the franchise's growth. Fans are thoroughly enjoying these new additions due to their captivating storytelling, exhilarating fights, and the introduction of powerful and unique characters.
One such remarkable character is Cumber, a Saiyan warrior known for his immense strength. Let's delve into the impressive capabilities of Cumber.
Who Is Cumber?
Cumber, a recent character in the Dragon Ball franchise, actually dates back to an ancient period in the storyline. He first appeared in the video game Super Dragon Ball Heroes and later made his debut in the anime adaptation of the same game. In the story, Cumber was taken from his original timeline and brought to the Core Area of the Prison Planet, a collection of seven planets used as a prison by the formidable character Fu. Fu's intention was to study and harness Cumber's malevolent energy.
However, within the context of the arcade game, Cumber made his first appearance when Fu summoned him through a wish granted by the Dragon Balls. Cumber exhibits a deep-seated animosity towards the original Super Saiyan God, as evidenced by his intense anger and agitation upon encountering Goku in his Super Saiyan God form. Possessing all the defining traits of a Saiyan warrior, including an insatiable lust for challenging battles, a primal savagery, and an inherently violent nature, Cumber is solely focused on engaging in exhilarating and arduous fights, regardless of the eventual outcome.
How Strong Is Cumber?
Cumber, with his towering stature and fearsome countenance, possesses a formidable physique adorned with cascading jet-black spikes, enough to send chills down the spines of those who dare stand against him. It seems as though an ominous aura emanates from his very being, amplifying the terror he instills. It is no mere hyperbole to declare him overwhelmingly dominant, for he stands as one of Universe 7 and the entire multiverse's mightiest warriors in the Dragon Ball realm. A mere taste of his devastating might is evidenced by his ability to unleash tremendous waves of energy and reduce the confines of his restraining garment, which had been intended to suppress his power, to ruins. Cumber is undeniably the genuine article, a true threat that prompted Vegeta and Goku to promptly attain their Super Saiyan Blue and Super Saiyan God forms upon sensing his presence.
Cumber's Future In Dragon Ball
He effortlessly defeated Cooler, a formidable enemy in his Final Form, as if it were a simple task. Goku and Vegeta also struggled against Cumber, managing to knock him down but unable to inflict any damage. Goku had to tap into the power of Ultra Instinct (UI) to defeat Cumber, who was in his Super Saiyan 3 form. However, the other Core Area warriors intervened and saved Cumber from being defeated by UI Goku. Cumber possesses various abilities, including Flight, Ki Blasts, Désastre Eraser (a destructive energy wave formed from Cumber's dark ki), Evil Aura (which corrupts the minds of fellow Saiyans), Désastre Compress, Power Ball, and Mouth Energy Wave (a powerful black and red energy wave unleashed in his Golden Great Ape form), among others.
Despite Cumber's intriguing background, which has the potential for further development, his presence in Dragon Ball Super (should it ever happen) would be an exciting addition for fans. However, there is one significant obstacle: Cumber is not considered canon. The Super Dragon Ball Heroes anime is derived from a video game of the same name, deviating from the ongoing manga and anime series in the Dragon Ball franchise, Dragon Ball Super. Consequently, viewers will be unable to encounter Cumber in either the manga or its animated adaptation, unless Akira Toriyama deems it fit to incorporate him into a future chapter of Dragon Ball Super.
The possibility of Cumber being a notable addition to the Dragon Ball franchise as one of the top villains is significant and advantageous for Toriyama and the creators of the DBS series. However, it is crucial for his character to have a captivating storyline that maximizes his potential. Yet, whether Cumber becomes an official part of the canon remains uncertain, as it ultimately relies on Akira Toriyama's decision. Dragon Ball Super can be streamed on Crunchyroll & Funimation platforms.
