Summary
Rick and Morty season 7's teaser trailer addresses the Rick Prime plot, but also highlights Justin Roiland's absence.
The creators of the series insist that, despite the replacement of Rick and Morty's voices with similar-sounding actors in season 7, the show will maintain its original essence. The upcoming season centers around Rick Prime and another iteration of Rick engaging in a face-off, which further highlights the challenge of concealing Roiland's departure from the show.
The teaser trailer for the first season 7 of Rick and Morty appears to address the show's main plot. However, it also brings attention to Justin Roiland's absence. Roiland, who portrayed Rick and Morty and also the primary antagonists Rick Prime and Evil Morty, was dropped by Adult Swim after being charged with domestic battery and accused of inappropriate behavior in January 2023. As a result, the recasting of Roiland's characters was inevitable but poses challenges for the series. Despite this, the show's creators are determined to maintain the same essence. Executive producer Steven Levy assured fans at San Diego Comic-Con 2023 that actors with similar voices would be providing the voices for Rick and Morty in season 7.

Rick and Morty Season 7 Won’t Ignore Rick Prime
The initial glimpse of what's to come in Rick and Morty's seventh season dropped on Adult Swim's Twitter account. The teaser got fans excited as it shed light on the Rick Prime storyline, but also raised concerns for the same reason. Instead of focusing on the Smith family and allowing Rick and Morty to take a supporting role, season 7 appears to be heading in a different direction by pitting one version of Rick against another. This unexpected twist adds even more intrigue to the upcoming season.
This is an ambitious development as it puts two of Roiland's characters in the spotlight throughout the entirety of season 7 of Rick and Morty. However, this is actually a positive aspect for the overall storyline of the show. After the season 6 premiere introduced an exciting confrontation between Rick and his archenemy only to abandon it until the finale, it is gratifying to finally witness their ongoing conflict being addressed. It was incredibly frustrating when Rick and Morty season 6 reverted back to standalone adventures after hinting at a significant showdown between Rick and Rick Prime. Therefore, revisiting this plotline is a wise decision.
Rick And Morty Season 7 Has Nowhere To Hide Roiland’s Exit
However, there's no denying that Rick and Morty season 7 is failing to divert viewers' attention from Roiland's absence. While Solar Opposites swiftly replaced Roiland with a new actor and acknowledged the change, Rick and Morty season 7 not only ignores the switch but even gives one of Roiland's characters a more prominent role. Both Rick and Rick Prime were previously voiced by Roiland, making it nearly impossible for the show to conceal his absence while focusing on this particular storyline. Although it was inevitable for Rick and Morty season 7 to address this issue at some point, it's remarkable to witness the show's first teaser confronting it head-on.
