Rick and Morty season 7 is shrouded in mystery, but there are several pressing questions that need to be answered. In previous seasons, the show cleverly avoided delving into its lore and canon, often making meta-jokes about it. However, this tactic can no longer be sustained. The fifth season premiere hinted at this change when Rick interrupted Mr. Nimbus to prevent the establishment of his canonical backstory.
In the past, Rick and Morty had a rule to only touch upon the overarching narrative once per season, known as the "Big Story." However, the season 5 finale, "Rickmurai Jack," revealed crucial information about Rick's background, Evil Morty's plan, and the grim reality of the show's multiverse in rapid succession. These revelations make it impossible for Rick and Morty season 7 to ignore the show's canon. While season 6 attempted to sidestep the main storyline with standalone episodes, season 7 must confront and address this plot.
8 Will Rick Finally Hunt Down Rick Prime?
Rick’s relentless pursuit of his alternate self who murdered his family permeates every episode of Rick and Morty season 6, lurking in the background. While the Smith family embarks on their trademark absurd escapades, dealing with the Night Family's rebellion or Jerry’s uncomfortably close encounter with his own mother, the burning question of when Rick and Morty will return to the central plot of Rick’s quest looms large. It is crucial that Rick and Morty season 7 avoids the mistake of season 6 by devoting only one episode to this storyline. Now that viewers are aware of Rick Prime’s reprehensible crimes and Rick’s unwavering determination to bring him to justice, this narrative must find some form of resolution.
Rick and Morty season 7 must prioritize Rick's relentless pursuit of his nemesis and his unyielding quest for vengeance. Whether or not Rick ultimately succeeds in capturing Rick Prime, this plotline cannot simply be disregarded for yet another season in favor of self-contained stories. In season 5, Rick and Morty awkwardly shifted between narratives that contributed to the show's overarching storyline and more lighthearted adventures. However, the season did offer multiple episodes that delved into this central plot. While this may have accentuated the perceived silliness of the much-maligned “Rickdependence Spray,” it also elevated the season 5 finale to one of Rick and Morty's finest episodes. Season 7 must follow suit and strike a similar balance.
7 What Happened To Evil Morty?
While Rick's quest to locate Rick Prime serves as the driving force behind the "Big Story" of Rick and Morty season 7, it is not the sole focus of the show's enduring mysteries. In the season 5 finale, Evil Morty managed to survive the destruction of the Citadel and escape. Despite claiming to have only wanted to expose Rick's wrongdoings and dismantle the oppressive system that empowered him, there is a possibility that the restoration of the Central Finite Curve during season 6 might have further fueled Evil Morty's anger.
6 Will Birdperson and Rick Reignite Their Friendship?
The friendship between Rick and Birdperson faced significant challenges in season 5, episode 8, titled "Rickternal Friendshine of the Spotless Mort." However, this emotional episode concluded with Rick and Birdperson parting ways on negative terms. Out of all the characters in Rick and Morty, Birdperson appears to be the most suitable candidate for a comeback in season 7. His relationship with Rick is unresolved, and their strong bond helped them navigate the Battle of Blood Ridge. It would be unfortunate if their story concluded on a pessimistic note.
5 Is Beth (and Space Beth) and Jerry’s Relationship Okay?
Beth and Jerry's split in the early episodes of Rick and Morty led to personal growth for both characters. Although they eventually reconciled, season 6 of the show revealed significant problems in their relationship. Beth's affair with her own clone Space Beth briefly threatened their marriage, but the situation ended better than expected for everyone involved. Despite this positive outcome, season 7 of Rick and Morty must still address the ongoing issues faced by Morty's well-meaning but emotionally unstable parents.
4 What Happened To Morty’s Love Life?
Speaking of turbulent romantic experiences, Morty's love life presents a rather gloomy picture of the show's protagonist. In the earlier seasons of Rick and Morty, Morty's romantic endeavors merely served as a means to advance the plot, with his relationships never transcending the realm of juvenile infatuation. However, the events of season 5 saw Morty's interactions with his long-standing crush, Jessica, and his brief romance with Planetina hint at his growth and maturity in dealing with girls and dating. Sadly, in Rick and Morty season 6, Morty's love life once again fell by the wayside. As such, it is imperative that Rick and Morty season 7 provides the character with a more promising future in this realm.
3 How Will Justin Roiland's Rick & Morty Roles Be Recast?
Justin Roiland was terminated from his role on Rick and Morty in January 2023 following allegations of domestic violence against him. Although his departure was satirized in Solar Opposites, a show in which he only portrayed one major character, the situation poses a greater challenge for Rick and Morty. As Roiland voiced both Rick and Morty in every episode of the series thus far, the upcoming seventh season will require the recasting of these pivotal roles, along with the need to address the alteration of the show's lead characters' voices.
2 Is Morty Even In School Any More?
Morty's experiences at school had a significant impact on the events of Rick and Morty seasons 1 and 2. Initially, Rick ventured into his principal's dreams in a bid to alter his grades, and later there was a memorable adventure involving a vampire infestation in his high school. However, in subsequent seasons, the series deviated from this setting entirely. To provide a refreshing change of pace and alleviate narrative pressure on Rick's storyline, it is imperative for Rick and Morty season 7 to reintroduce Morty's school stories, allowing him to take the lead role.
1 What Role Will Summer Play In Season 7?
In Rick and Morty season 6, episode 2 titled "Rick: A Mort Well Lived" and episode 4 titled "Night Family," Summer surprisingly played significant roles. However, she remained largely absent from the rest of season 6, and her life outside of the adventures with Rick and Morty has not been explored for years. Despite one standout episode in season 4 where Summer joined Rick and Morty on their intergalactic adventures, this promising dynamic has not been revisited since then. Now, with Rick and Morty season 7 introducing new protagonists, it is the perfect opportunity for the series to give Summer a more prominent role.
