The unexpected path to Barbra Streisand's heart: How she captured James Brolin

Barbra Streisand's captivating honesty and fearless nature played a key role in winning over James Brolin's heart, proving that being authentic is the ultimate path to love

Barbra Streisand fearlessly spoke her mind, even when it came to a potential romantic partner.

This straightforward approach proved to be successful for the renowned musical icon when she first met her now-husband James Brolin more than two decades ago. She recently shared this anecdote during an interview with Gayle King, discussing her forthcoming memoir titled "My Name is Barbra."

Streisand recounted the incident, explaining, "As I passed him, I playfully touched his hair and candidly remarked, 'Who messed up your hair?' It was simply the honest truth," she stated. "What other response could I have given? 'Hello, my name is Barbra'? I mean, seriously?"

The famous actress, known for her role in "Funny Girl," and Brolin were both in their 50s when their paths crossed for the first time. This encounter occurred at a dinner party in 1996, where they were introduced by mutual friends.

Brolin revealed during a Sunday interview with King that he was greatly drawn to Streisand's straightforwardness. He further mentioned that his bond with the legendary figure was formed immediately, comparing it to a magical moment where everything fell into place.

The couple got married in 1998 and have been in a relationship for 25 years.

Both Brolin and Streisand have children from previous marriages. Brolin is the father of Marvel actor Josh Brolin, as well as daughters Molly and Jess Brolin. Streisand has a son named Jason Gould, who she shares with "M*A*S*H" actor Elliott Gould.

"My Name is Barbra" will be released on November 7.
