Warning: The following article contains spoilers from Jack Ryan season 4. Actor Michael Kelly explains the trust between Mike November and the main character in season 4 of Jack Ryan. When we last saw November, he was in a complicated place in his life, with a deteriorated view of the CIA. However, he ultimately decides to help Jack Ryan and the agency, despite his reservations. This dynamic continues in season 4, with November providing support to John Krasinski's protagonist. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kelly sheds light on November's mindset, which traces back to season 2 of Jack Ryan. Despite any challenges, November has always had trust in Ryan and his instincts. Kelly also reveals some of the other motivations driving his character.
Returning to what happened in season two, right? When we were declared persona non grata in Caracas, Venezuela, and I went through the process of marrying and divorcing my wife twice, eventually leaving the CIA, but still choosing to stay by Jack's side because it felt like the right thing to do. Throughout it all, I've consistently supported Jack because I know that if he has a gut feeling, it's usually accurate.
It's fascinating to reflect upon because here we have a man who had a comfortable and prestigious position within the CIA. He had an easy life, but I genuinely believe that he is guided by a strong moral compass, which led him to recognize that Jack was right in that particular situation. He made the decision to give up everything, to put it all on the line, and do what is morally right.
And I believe he lacked some involvement in the action as well. Moreover, he had to venture out on his own and establish his own business from scratch. Although he had all the connections and resources, he positioned himself in an exceptionally advantageous location in Greece, only to be instructed to evacuate by November. However, he and his companions defied the orders, asserting that sometimes you cannot strictly adhere to the established norms and regulations.
Mike November's Interesting Arc Throughout Jack Ryan Season 4
Kelly makes his debut in Jack Ryan season 2 as a typical spy character, strictly adhering to protocol and managing the agency's operations in Venezuela. But when circumstances take a turn for the worse, Jack Ryan shows him that sometimes bending the rules is necessary to uphold justice. Despite his initial reluctance, November eventually embraces Ryan's perspective.
Kelly's career and the choices he has made have come at a personal cost, as he mentions in his response. This aspect makes him an intriguing option to appear in potential Jack Ryan spinoffs. Exploring further into Kelly's supporting character and performance in a Rainbow Six television show would establish a closer connection to the protagonist crafted by Krasinski.
Additionally, certain scenes in Jack Ryan support this idea. November and Domingo Chavez (portrayed by Michael Peña), rumored to be the focus of a spinoff, have previously partnered together. In fact, Chavez even expresses his fondness for November in one particular scene. While it is important to acknowledge that a spinoff has not been officially confirmed yet, this provides a solid foundation to build upon.
