Jada Pinkett Smith recently provided new revelations about her connection with the late rapper Tupac Shakur. Speaking in an interview with RollingOut on Thursday, October 12, the 52-year-old actress was questioned about Tupac considering her a "soulmate," despite his tragic death at the age of 25 in 1996. Pinkett Smith affirmed that having a soulmate connection that is purely platonic is undoubtedly conceivable.
"If past lives exist, I firmly believe that Pac and I have shared numerous journeys together," she expressed, acknowledging the various interpretations of soulmates.
In spite of their profound connection, Pinkett Smith confidently asserts that she has no remorse for never escalating her relationship with Tupac.
"It simply wasn't feasible. We lacked any romantic chemistry," she chuckled. The former participant of Red Table Talk asserted that their connection was purely based on friendship and referred to it as "friendship-love chemistry." She also mentioned a natural inclination that prevented them from progressing beyond being friends.
"It seemed as though it was meant to be that way," she elaborated. "It was almost like divine intervention, as if God intended for us to join forces but also purposefully ensured that we wouldn't become romantically involved. That was not the intention."

Pinkett Smith mentioned that she delved into her relationship with Tupac in her new memoir, Worthy, which will be released on Tuesday, October 17. These honest remarks about her past follow Pinkett Smith's recent revelation about her current relationship with husband Will Smith. In a preview of her upcoming interview with Today's Hoda Kotb on Wednesday, October 11, Pinkett Smith disclosed that she and Smith have been separated for a number of years. The complete interview will be aired on NBC on Friday, October 13, at 8 p.m. ET.
"I believe that by 2016, we were simply worn out from all the efforts we had been putting in. It seemed like both of us were still fixated on our own idealized versions of each other," she expressed in the sneak peek.
In another preview of the upcoming interview, Pinkett Smith shared her surprise when Smith referred to her as his "wife" after he slapped Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars in March 2022. (Smith garnered attention for exclaiming, "Keep my wife's name out of your f-king mouth!" following Rock's joke about Pinkett Smith's shaved head.)
Pinkett Smith expressed her shock at the current state of their relationship, clarifying that she is not physically present in it. It has been a while since they referred to each other as husband and wife, which concerns her deeply as she feels uncertain about the situation. Despite their separation, Pinkett Smith explained that she hasn't felt prepared to file for divorce.
“I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce. We will work through whatever. And I just haven’t been able to break that promise,” she said.
