In a bizarre God of War clip, the Leviathan Axe, one of Kratos's greatest weapons, seems to abandon him. In 2018's God of War, Kratos has settled down in Midgard after seeking revenge on the gods of Ancient Greece. Now a calmer warrior, haunted by his past actions, Kratos is focused on raising his son Atreus to forge a better path in life.
Reflecting his changed mindset, Kratos wields a new weapon in the Norse-based God of War games: the powerful Leviathan Axe. Crafted by the dwarf brothers Brok and Sindri as a counter to Thor's Mjölnir, the axe was given to Kratos by the late Laufey, his wife. Infused with ice, it provides a contrast to Kratos's fiery Blades of Chaos, allowing him to unleash brutal long-range attacks by throwing it at his enemies.
The player has the ability to summon the legendary Leviathan Axe back to its owner by pressing a button. However, this does not always go according to plan, as demonstrated by a Reddit user fminf who shared a peculiar gameplay clip from the 2018 God of War reboot on r/GodofWar. In the clip, Kratos throws his Leviathan Axe at a group of enemies, but instead of returning to him, it shoots up into the sky. Fminf humorously suggests in the post's title that the axe is returning to its original owner, Faye.
Fortunately for Kratos, the Leviathan Axe is not his only weapon. In the middle of the 2018 God of War game, Kratos retrieves his long-forgotten Blades of Chaos and uses their fire-based attacks to fend off Odin's forces. In the upcoming God of War Ragnarok, Kratos acquires a third weapon called the Draupnir Spear, a golden lance capable of countering Heimdall's ability to see the future. However, the Leviathan Axe remains the weapon most synonymous with the Norse God of War series because it is the first weapon accessible to players.
Laufey is renowned for gifting Kratos the Leviathan Axe, an act intended to ensure their protection. However, it becomes quite comical when the axe unexpectedly abandons the Ghost of Sparta during a heated battle, as depicted in fminf's God of War clip. Kratos can only express his disappointment through grunts as he watches the axe soar to the heavens, leaving him and Atreus to complete their fight without its formidable icy abilities.
