A fan recently came up with a clever suggestion to enhance Amber's role in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. They shared their idea on social media, sparking an insightful discussion within the Tears of the Kingdom fandom.

Similar to Breath of the Wild, there are limited uses for Amber in Tears of the Kingdom. However, since players frequently obtain this fossilized resin by destroying ore veins, it is easy to accumulate a substantial stack of Amber in the game.

Reflecting on the current situation, a Reddit user named ArchieBaldukeIII recently proposed an idea to enhance the usefulness of Amber within the game. The suggestion involved fusing Amber with weapons to create wind-themed swords called Eightfold Blades or similar variants. This concept builds on the existing mechanics of the game, as other minerals in Tears of the Kingdom already grant elemental effects when fused with weapons. It is peculiar that Amber does not possess this capability. Additionally, unlike other elemental armaments, wind weapons cannot be created through Link's Fuse ability and must be discovered throughout Hyrule's map in Tears of the Kingdom. ArchieBaldukeIII considers this inconsistency as further evidence supporting their argument for making Amber a component for wind weapons.

Some fans speculated if Nintendo initially planned to give Amber wind abilities, but most have dismissed this idea. One player used the description of Tears of the Kingdom's Amber Earrings to argue that the developers always intended for Amber to be a neutral element. In contrast, other types of earrings are associated with elemental effects such as light for Diamonds and fire for Rubies.

It is unlikely that Nintendo will change how Amber works in Tears of the Kingdom. It is also uncertain if there will be any significant updates for the latest Zelda game, as Nintendo has not confirmed any post-launch content. Many were hoping for a similar expansion pass as Breath of the Wild, which was announced two months after its release. However, this has not happened, especially considering that the Breath of the Wild sequel is approaching its three-month anniversary.
