Far Cry 7 is rumored to have a day-one release on Nintendo's next console, the Switch 2, which is expected to have more RAM than the Xbox Series S.
The game is still in its initial development phase and is unlikely to be launched before 2023 or later. Furthermore, there are speculations regarding the possibility of Red Dead Redemption 2 being ported to the Switch or potentially the Switch 2. Nonetheless, the game's high system requirements might present a challenge.
Rumors suggest that Far Cry 7 will be released on the upcoming Nintendo console, possibly called the Switch 2, on its launch day. An established Nintendo source also revealed that the Switch 2 will have a greater amount of RAM compared to the Xbox Series S.
Ubisoft has released a total of seven Far Cry games from 2012 to 2021. However, this year marks the first time in over ten years that there will be no new installment in the series within a two-year period. Despite this, Ubisoft has dropped hints that Far Cry 7 is currently being developed, although it is still in its early stages.
Earlier today, Insider Gaming leaked the story and gameplay details of Far Cry 7. Universo Nintendo's Felipe Lima reported on Twitter that the game will be released simultaneously on the Switch 2 and other platforms. However, the release date is still quite far off, as Far Cry 7 is believed to have only entered pre-production in the second half of 2023. It's important to note that the development cycle for AAA games continues to lengthen, as evidenced by the approximately five-year development time for Far Cry 6.
In addition to Far Cry 7, Lima also believes that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released on Nintendo hardware in the near future. He discovered a regulatory classification that suggests the game is being ported to the Switch. However, considering that Red Dead Redemption 2 already taxes more powerful hardware, there is a possibility that the rating is referring to the Switch 2. The recently released port of the original Red Dead Redemption on the Switch is already struggling to maintain a playable frame rate of 30 frames per second, which may be considered low for many gamers.
According to industry insiders, the Switch 2 is expected to be released in 2024. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has confirmed that Ubisoft has already made plans for Nintendo's next console. While it's unclear if Far Cry 7 will be included in these plans, it's likely that Call of Duty will be the first major FPS franchise to return to Nintendo hardware in the near future. Microsoft has pledged to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo consoles over a 10-year period, starting after the completion of its Activision Blizzard acquisition, which recently received preliminary approval from the British CMA in late September.
