Highlights
The hero rankings in Season 7 vary based on a player's competitive rank and individual skill, so certain heroes may perform differently for different players.
The current meta in Overwatch 2 showcases strong performance from heroes such as Orisa, D.Va, Bastion, Torbjorn, Mei, Hanzo, Ana, Kiriko, and Illari. On the other hand, heroes like Roadhog and Reaper are facing difficulties. The recently released patch notes for Overwatch 2 Season 7 reveal significant changes to the hero meta. Previously weaker characters have now become viable picks, while some others have lost their viability. It is important to note that these dynamics may shift again with the upcoming mid-season patch.

Assessing the Position of Tanks in Overwatch 2: A Competitive PerspectiveOrisa
D.Va
Bastion
Torbjorn
Mei
Hanzo
Illari
Ana
Kiriko
Orisa has been a dominant choice for several months now and continues to excel despite the slight decrease in Fortify's damage. Her ability to efficiently manage her cooldowns gives her impressive durability, leading some to compare her to a formidable raid boss. In addition, D.Va poses a significant challenge to eliminate thanks to her Defense Matrix. As a result, she is a consistent presence on almost every map, with the added advantage of a second chance at life in her baby D.Va form when her MEKA is destroyed.
Similar to Season 6, DPS heroes such as Bastion and Torbjorn reign supreme in the meta due to their immense damage output and high resilience. Moreover, although Mei's Deep Chill has been removed, her versatility remains unchanged. She is highly effective against agile heroes like Tracer, possessing the ability to be aggressive with her Cryo-Freeze and hinder enemy players with her Ice Wall. Hanzo briefly faced removal from Competitive Play due to a bug, but he remains a valuable choice for his potential to eliminate enemies with a single shot, his Sonic Arrow for scouting, and his consistent damage output.
As for the Supports, Ana, Kiriko, and Illari showcase exceptional skills. Ana's anti-heal ability and Sleep Dart can prove to be fatal in battles. Kiriko's protective suzu and teleportation techniques continue to dominate the field. Although Illari's secondary heal output has been reduced from 120 to 105 per second, this change has not hindered her performance significantly as she is primarily chosen for dealing damage.
A-Tier
Ramattra
Junker Queen
Zarya
Soldier: 76
Sojourn
Genji
Echo
Lucio
Baptiste
A-tier heroes are great in nearly every composition.
Ramattra's Nemesis cool-down has increased by one second, which shouldn't be underestimated. Zarya is performing well as she effectively counters Orisa's damage and javelin attacks. Junker Queen excels in close-ranged combat, thanks to her Commanding Shout and Jagged Blade. When combined with Lucio's speed boost or a powerful supportive hero like Baptiste, she becomes an unstoppable force.
Soldier: 76 remains in the same tier as he was in Overwatch 2 Season 5, despite the nerfs to his Helix Rocket and Tactical Visor in the previous season. Sojourn is often considered a superior version of Soldier: 76 due to her slide ability, but she lacks the healing provided by Biotic Field, making off-angling riskier for her. However, the consistent damage output from Sojourn, Echo, and Soldier: 76 can be devastating in skilled hands. Additionally, despite the memes surrounding Genji, his high burst damage, mobility, and the devastating combo of Nano Blade still make him a powerful threat.
B-Tier
Winston
Doomfist
Sigma
Sombra
Tracer
Widowmaker
Ashe
Cassidy
Junkrat
Moira
Lifeweaver
Brigitte
These characters excel in most metas, but truly shine in the hands of skilled specialists. Sigma has consistently performed well as a tank in every season, whereas Winston and Doomfist have experienced more inconsistent rankings.
Sombra's rework in Season 7 has garnered mixed responses, particularly from her dedicated players. Her previous assassin-like gameplay has been replaced with a more front-line damage focus. By effectively utilizing her Virus and Hack abilities, she can swiftly eliminate squishy enemies. However, successfully executing this strategy and safely disengaging from the battle can prove challenging. Other DPS heroes, namely Tracer, Widowmaker, Ashe, and Junkrat, have also found success in the B-Tier. Additionally, Cassidy has recently joined their ranks after several lackluster seasons. The buff to her Combat Roll ability allows her to absorb substantial bursts of damage, similar to Echo's Sticky Grenades and Tracer's Pulse Bomb.
C-Tier
Currently, Moira, Lifeweaver, and Brigitte are all viable options to consider for gameplay. It is worth noting that Brigitte's popularity has significantly declined. Lifeweaver has undergone various modifications since his introduction, and while he wasn't particularly strong in Season 5, he now boasts a higher win rate thanks to the buffs to Thorn Volley, Tree of Life, and Rejuvenating Dash. Moira remains highly valuable due to her exceptional healing and damage capabilities, although Kiriko, a Support character with Kitsune Rush, headshot proficiency, and immortality, is typically a superior choice.
Wrecking Ball
Reinhardt
Pharah
Symmetra
Mercy
Zenyatta
Wrecking Ball and Reinhardt mains often find themselves at a disadvantage as they fall into the C-tier category of heroes. Unlike Sombra, Mei, and Cassidy who excel in various situations, Hammond struggles to make an impact. Moreover, Reinhardt's effectiveness relies heavily on getting up close to enemy players, a challenging task even with his Charge ability. To make matters worse, Bastion's popularity in the meta makes quick work of Reinhardt's shield, leaving him vulnerable in mere moments.
Symmetra excels on close-quarters maps such as Lijiang Tower or Point A of Dorado. When a team communicates effectively, her teleporter can be a highly effective tool for quickly reaching the enemy. In addition, skilled Pharah players can still make impactful moves, particularly when accompanied by a Mercy pocket, commonly referred to as Pharmercy. However, it is important for Pharah to contribute value, as having a Support character solely dedicated to one teammate means that the team's resources are being used inefficiently if she does not.
On the other hand, Mercy is most effective when she sticks closely to a damage character, which limits her ability to independently make significant plays. Zenyatta currently occupies a unique position in the meta. While his damage orb proves highly effective against tanks, his mobility is lacking, particularly when facing dive compositions or snipers.
D-Tier
Roadhog
Reaper
With the upcoming mid-season patch, tank players are eagerly anticipating Roadhog's rework for increased effectiveness. However, despite Reaper's high damage output, heroes like Mei and Bastion often outperform him in terms of speed. Currently, Reaper's primary role seems to revolve around countering Winston, but there are now numerous other DPS heroes capable of fulfilling this role too.
Overwatch 2 is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
