Truth-Seeking Balls, composed of all five fundamental chakra natures, are highly revered ninjutsu that possess the ability to nullify any Nature Release when combined with Yin-Yang Release. In the Naruto series, those who possess the ability to use these balls hold a power that borders on the divine. These black orbs, appearing deceptively simple, have the ability to turn anything they touch into dust. Furthermore, they can be shaped and sized according to the user's intentions, functioning as weapons, defensive barriers, or even chakra signal transmitters. Despite their seemingly small and harmless appearance, each ball holds the potential to devastate entire landscapes, wiping out everything in their path.
The considerable power of Truth-Seeking Balls is further underscored by the fact that even legendary shinobi like Hashirama Senju and his brother Tobirama were unable to manifest them, a testament to the inhuman levels of power required to awaken their abilities. In most cases, those who possess Truth-Seeking Balls in Naruto have them floating in a circular formation behind them. The exception to this is Hamura Otsutsuki, who has a unique arrangement of orbs that float behind him in a sigmoidal pattern. The term "Truth-Seeker" derived from Mahayana Buddhism, similarly to other techniques in the Naruto series.
What Are Truth-Seeking Balls?
Truth-Seeking Balls surpass both kekkei genkai and kekkei tota, as they combine all five chakra natures, allowing them to counteract any form of nature transformation. Additionally, these balls can be infused with Yin-Yang Release or senjutsu chakra, expanding their capabilities. Created orbs float near the user and can be summoned and manipulated at will. If the user dies, the orbs disintegrate along with any black receivers they created.
Once deployed or destroyed in combat, users cannot create additional orbs, meaning the initial number of orbs they acquire remains fixed. The number of orbs a user can create is influenced by the acquisition process. For example, Obito and Madara both manifested ten Truth-Seeking Balls upon becoming the Ten Tails jinchuriki, while Naruto gained nine after receiving the power of Six Paths Senjutsu from Hagoromo. Similarly, Asura Otsutsuki acquired nine orbs through a similar method, and Toneri Otsutsuki's orb count varied after awakening the Tenseigan Chakra Mode.
Who Can Use Truth Seeking Balls?
Various routes exist for obtaining Truth-Seeking Balls, each involving significant power upgrades seen in the series. Hagoromo and Hamura naturally possessed these orbs, as seen during their battle against their mother, Kaguya Otsutsuki, and the Ten Tails. Additionally, individuals who become the Ten Tails jinchuriki can also manifest Truth-Seeking Balls after sealing the tailed beast within themselves and gaining complete control over its power. Obito and Madara Uchiha each obtained ten orbs using this method.
Naruto Uzumaki gains the ability to manifest his Truth-Seeking Orbs by receiving the power of Six Paths Senjutsu. These orbs appear whenever he enters Six Paths Sage Mode in conjunction with Nine Tails Chakra Mode, disappearing when he reverts to his base form. Toneri Otsutsuki can also manifest Truth-Seeking Balls when entering Tenseigan Chakra Mode, which vanish upon exiting this divine form. Kaguya Otsutsuki possesses a unique version of this technique called the Expansive Truth Seeking Ball, enabled by her kekkei mora ability. This powerful ball has the potential to reshape the world by reducing it to nothing, effectively creating a new dimension. Unlike most users, Kaguya seems to have the ability to create new orbs even after manifesting them initially.
How Can They Be Used In Combat?
Similar to the Dust Release technique, the Truth-Seeking Balls possess the ability to annihilate most objects they come into contact with, as well as counter ninjutsu using Yin-Yang Release. The only effective ways to combat them are through taijutsu or attacks infused with senjutsu, as these can withstand the immense concentration of various chakra types contained within each orb. Within the series, the Truth-Seeking Balls serve as one of the limited methods to confront the regenerative abilities of those resurrected through the Summoning: Impure World Reincarnation jutsu, capable of inflicting permanent damage or even death upon shinobi revived through this technique.
In their original form, the orbs can be projected as projectiles to eliminate designated targets. Additionally, shape transformation allows users to fashion various weapons out of the orbs, as seen with Obito and Madara creating a shakujo and Naruto crafting a Bo. Obito successfully devised black receivers from the orbs, which he employed for the Six Red Yang Formation barrier ninjutsu. Due to the smooth nature of the chakra utilized in the orbs, they can be molded into swords, shields, or any other desired armament. Furthermore, they possess the capability to envelop a user's body as a defensive shield, effectively repelling any incoming attacks.
Shaping these orbs requires minimal effort. Obito, the first Ten Tails jinchuriki, accomplished this by passing the orbs through holes in his hands. Alternatively, individuals can mold the orbs into any desired shape, as demonstrated by Naruto who used his Truth-Seeking Ball to create a levitating platform for Sasuke during the battle against Kaguya. Toneri's utilization of Truth-Seeking Balls is slightly more intricate, allowing him to create elaborate golden cages or even a colossal sword capable of splitting the moon in half. It should be noted that shinobi can only exert control over Truth-Seeking Balls within a 70-meter range, implying that control can be disrupted by separating the user or the orbs.
