Soul-like fans have a lot to look forward to with the highly-anticipated worldwide release of Remnant 2. Serving as a sequel to the popular Remnant: From The Ashes, the game delves into the ongoing struggle of humanity against the Root infection.
As players journey through the various worlds of Remnant 2, they will face numerous challenging enemies and beasts. Therefore, it is crucial to carefully consider the chosen Archetype for the game. With a wide range of options – some requiring in-game unlocking – each Archetype offers a unique play style. Here is a comparison of the Archetypes in Remnant 2.
There are still new Archetypes being discovered, so be sure to keep an eye on this article. We will update it as new information surfaces
S Tier
Handler
The Handler Archetype in Remnant 2 is known as "Man's best friend." It is considered one of the strongest options for survival in the game's multiple worlds. Whether playing alone or with others, having a canine companion can make a significant difference when facing the many dangerous beasts encountered on the journey.
The Handler's main perk, Bonded, is widely regarded as one of the game's best. When the player is incapacitated, their loyal canine companion will try to revive them. This is a feature that would typically result in instant death for most other classes. Moreover, the dog serves as an excellent distraction for enemies, drawing their attention and giving players more time to launch their attacks and eliminate adversaries. Players need not worry about their pet's wellbeing, as they have the ability to revive themselves and possess an incredibly efficient health regeneration rate.
Medic
In the challenging world of Remnant 2, maintaining good health is no easy task. However, players can rely on the Medic Archetype to effectively handle the numerous threats that await them in this Soulslike game. Designed to support party players, the Medic class becomes a lifesaver for those struggling to survive against the game's formidable creatures, and they receive their fair share of rewards for their healing efforts. With a wide range of perks, the Medic not only benefits the player but also their companions by restoring their health.
The Medic has three incredible skills to enhance their abilities. The Wellspring empowers players to infuse healing energy into their fists, unleashing a Healing Spring that envelops a 3-meter radius for 15 seconds. This rejuvenating spring heals 10.5 health per second for all allies standing within its reach. The Healing Shield acts as an impenetrable barrier, safeguarding all comrades within 25 meters by granting them a protective shield proportional to their maximum health. Additionally, it gradually regenerates a portion of the Medic's own health. Lastly, the Redemption skill generates an immense shockwave capable of resurrecting fallen allies and restoring more than half of their health. These skill choices greatly contribute to the survival of both players and their companions as they confront the myriad threats within the game.
A Tier
Gunslinger
The Gunslinger, a pre-order bonus for Remnant 2, excels at dealing high amounts of raw damage. Even for non-pre-order players, this class can still be unlocked and utilized once certain requirements are met. Unlike other classes, the Gunslinger specializes in preserving precious ammunition while inflicting damage at rapid rates and reloading with lightning-fast speed. The ability to conserve ammo is especially valuable, as it is scarce and sorely missed when resources dwindle.
For those seeking a dynamic combat experience, the Gunslinger Archetype is an excellent choice, particularly due to its key perk, Loaded. When ammunition levels run low, this perk instantly reloads both weapons and grants access to unlimited reserve ammo for five seconds, which can be further enhanced through upgrades. Additionally, the Archetype Perks of the Gunslinger can also impact various statistics related to damage and speed, such as reload speed, salvaged ammo capacity, and fire rate.
While the Gunslinger is known for its impressive offensive abilities and its ability to inflict massive amounts of damage, it falls short in comparison to the healing capabilities of the S Tier Archetypes, which can put the Gunslinger at a significant disadvantage. In the challenging game of Remnant 2, where managing one's health is crucial, players relying on the Gunslinger Archetype must possess exceptional accuracy and master their evasive maneuvers to stay alive.
Hunter
The Hunter Archetype is the ideal choice for players who prefer a stealthy playstyle and want to deal damage from a distance. This archetype is equipped with all the necessary tools for effective long-range combat. The Hunter's ability to mark hostile targets in the area allows them to strategize and ensure their survival by silently eliminating enemies one by one without detection.
The Hunter possesses a set of skills that complement their inclination for silent destruction. The Hunter's Mark enhances their awareness of hostiles, the Hunter's Focus improves aim when using sights, and the Hunter's Shroud renders them nearly invisible to the enemy. Additionally, the Hunter's Prime Perk, Dead To Rights, not only increases base weak spot damage but also extends the duration of their active skills. This makes the Hunter an even more deadly unseen attacker.
B Tier
While the Hunter excels as a long-range specialist, it may encounter difficulties when it comes to engaging in medium to close-quarters combat. This is primarily due to the fact that its preferred weapons generally possess a lower fire rate, making it harder to deal with charging adversaries. Choosing the Hunter can be a great decision for players who possess unwavering accuracy. However, those who struggle to maintain steady aim may find it more beneficial to opt for a class with a faster fire rate.
Challenger
Equipped with strong armor and powerful weapons, the Challenger Archetype boldly reveals its intentions of engaging in close combat and overpowering its adversaries. Specializing in close-quarters fighting and mitigating damage, this character is an ideal choice for players who prefer an aggressive approach and are ready to confront their enemies head-on. Whether new to the Remnant franchise or the Soulslike genre, the Challenger offers a solid starting point, boasting exceptional durability and the Prime Perk, which serves as a second chance when overwhelmed in combat.
True to its name, the Challenger's Prime Perk, Die Hard, automatically grants players a revival when their character would otherwise suffer fatal blows. Furthermore, its additional abilities further enhance its stubborn fighting style, enhancing characteristics such as fire rate, movement speed, and Bulwark, rendering it even more resilient to defeat.
Alchemist
Although this class exhibits remarkable prowess in close-quarters combat and serves as an excellent choice for beginners, it may encounter difficulties when pitted against formidable bosses that demand a proficient long-range arsenal. Furthermore, as the game advances, adversaries escalate in difficulty, resulting in a gradual depreciation of the Challenger's power advantage.
The Alchemist archetype excels at supporting its teammates by enhancing their abilities. Although it may not possess the offensive or defensive strength of other archetypes, it is highly valued as a teammate in Remnant 2. Unlocking the Alchemist requires players to complete specific objectives, but it is an investment well worth it, especially for party players.
True to its name, the Alchemist specializes in creating potions and concoctions that greatly aid its users during their journeys. Given the game's challenging nature, this archetype proves invaluable by bolstering the offensive and defensive capabilities of its companions. With the Spirited Prime Perk, the Alchemist can go beyond the usual limit of active concoctions, further enhancing its supportive abilities.
C Tier
While lacking a formidable offense, the Alchemist wields a formidable Wrangler 1860 rifle, a trusty Double Barrel sidearm, and a menacing ax as their arsenal. Although capable of defending itself reasonably well, this archetype truly shines when it comes to enhancing the abilities of their comrades.
Summoner
The Summoner holds the title of being the master of delegation, thanks to its unique power to command a squad of loyal minions in battle. By employing various Root minions, this Archetype willingly sacrifices its own health in order to have its loyal followers carry out its demands. At level ten, the Summoner is presented with three choices for minion types: the Hollow, Flyer, and Reaver. Each minion possesses distinct skills and requires a health investment ranging from 10% to 35% in order to summon. It's important to note that the Summoner can only call upon one type of minion at a time.
The Summoner's skills and abilities are designed to enhance the performance of its minions. With the Prime Perk called Ruthless, the damage and speed of the minions' attacks increase when they themselves sustain damage. As a strategic move, players can choose to intentionally inflict some pain on their minions to reap the benefits of this ability. Furthermore, the Archetype Perks cater to the overall improvement of the player's army, enhancing aspects such as damage, health, and lifesteal.
While summoning companions is a valuable skill, it exacts a hefty toll on the Summoner. With each utilization of their abilities, the player will endure substantial damage, rendering them susceptible to defeat. Therefore, they will depend on relic chargers or a Medic companion to restore their strength and protect their well-being.
Explorer
The Explorer Archetype may lack offensive and defensive capabilities, but it excels at discovering rare items that can enhance a character's abilities. With its exceptional speed, it is difficult for opponents to land a hit, although it lacks the ability to counterattack like other Archetype counterparts. The Explorer's talent for salvaging valuable goods is desirable, but unfortunately, the benefits do not outweigh the costs.
The Explorer's main advantage, Lucky, increases the likelihood of finding rare items for collection, while its general perks also improve the chances of striking gold. One of its most valuable abilities is Gold Digger, which allows the Explorer to dig into the ground and create a small fountain that enhances the stats of the player and their allies within range.
The Explorer in Remnant 2 is not as durable or powerful as other options, making it weaker overall. Despite this, it can still be a useful secondary Archetype to support stronger character classes. Remnant 2 will be released on July 25, 2023, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
