In the vast expanse of Starfield, death may hide in every corner. Besides the obvious dangers posed by alien creatures and space renegades, players should also be wary of the environment and its potential afflictions.
Afflictions in Starfield refer to debuffs that negatively impact the player character's abilities. Infections predominantly involve biological and microbial factors, varying in severity from a mere inconvenience to potentially destroying the game experience. Luckily, getting rid of these afflictions is relatively straightforward, granted that players possess the necessary funds or supplies.
How to Cure Infections in Starfield
During their journey, players may encounter various medicines specifically designed to treat infections. Antibiotics serve as a prominent example, although other medications can also fulfill this purpose.
When examining loot, players should carefully examine all consumables and take note of the icons displayed on their information screens. Consumables that feature purple pill icons possess the capability to cure infections. Therefore, players should avoid rashly selling, discarding, or disregarding these medications while exploring, as they could prove useful in the future. Players who are concerned about limited storage space need not fret, as consumables possess negligible weight, and adding cargo bays to ships is a relatively uncomplicated task.
Players can visit a doctor in any of the known systems and pay them to cure their illness if they do not have any medication on hand. The Reliant Clinic on New Atlantis is a trustworthy choice, conveniently located near one of the city's fast travel points. Additionally, players have the option to create their own medication at a Pharmaceutical Lab, with one such station available in the basement of the Lodge.
The severity of an infection can vary, and it may naturally disappear over time or worsen. To determine the case, players can check the Prognosis of the affliction on the character status screen. If the prognosis is excellent, the infection will eventually heal on its own. However, a poor prognosis indicates that the sickness will persist unless actively treated.
Immediate resolution is crucial for status effects with a poor prognosis rating, as additional symptoms may emerge over time. Players may experience up to three symptoms simultaneously, severely impacting their physical abilities both in and outside of combat.
