Ahsoka's conclusion has left Star Wars fans pondering its placement within the expansive and convoluted timeline. This article reveals the setting of the Disney Plus series.
Little did we know that the inclusion of Episode IV and V into A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back would be the least of our chronological dilemmas. For over 45 years, we have been immersed in stories from the distant galaxy, yet simplicity has never been a characteristic of the franchise's timeline.
Here is the timeline for when Ahsoka takes place.
When does Ahsoka take place?
Taking place in 12 ABY, Ahsoka's storyline unfolds alongside and following the events of The Mandalorian Season 3. Despite being in the era of the New Republic, the lingering presence of the Empire can still be felt in certain parts of the galaxy, with hidden Imperial remnants employing spies and treacherous individuals driven by greed.
Natasha Liu Bordizzo, the actress portraying Sabine Wren in the live-action adaptation, shared with SFX (as reported by GamesRadar) that "Ahsoka aligns with the events of The Mandalorian Season 3, and these shows are intricately intertwined. There are numerous striking similarities."
Ahsoka Star Wars timeline explained
Prior to explaining, it is essential to familiarize oneself with the following abbreviations: BBY and ABY.
BBY refers to the timeframe preceding the Battle of Yavin, which encompasses the crucial mission of destroying the Death Star depicted in A New Hope. On the other hand, ABY represents the years that transpired after the Battle of Yavin.
When does Ahsoka take place in the Star Wars timeline?
We’ve made a comprehensive list of every canon Star Wars movie and TV show and their respective time periods below, from the earliest to the latest, including Ahsoka:
This explains the absence of Ahsoka and Sabine during the Mandalore reclamation and fight against Moff Gideon. It also indicates that we are still in the early stages of the New Republic, with the Empire's influence still present in the galaxy and their illegal activities in the Outer Rim mostly overlooked or ignored.
However, questions persist. There appears to be ongoing debate within Lucasfilm, as Jon Favreau's statement about Grogu's time with Mando conflicting with the official Star Wars: Timelines book. Favreau's suggestion that Grogu spent "many years" with Mando before being separated for two years with Luke Skywalker contradicts the established timeline.

The Rebels' epilogue also introduces Ahsoka the White, who recruited Sabine to help search for Ezra Bridger. While most of the series is now considered canon again, this particular moment may have been revised to further develop Ahsoka's character in a live-action format. It remains uncertain if we will witness her journey through the World Between Worlds.
