Like any game, some encounters in Baldur's Gate 3 pose greater difficulty and require more effort to overcome. This article contains spoilers for Baldur's Gate 3. Conquering Shadowheart's Past in BG3

The House of Grief functions as a disguise for the central place of worship for the followers of Shar in Baldur's Gate. It also serves as the setting for the culmination of Shadowheart's personal journey. This is where she confronts Viconia, the head of the Shar religious community and a character who has appeared in previous Baldur's Gate games.

If, during Act 2, Shadowheart spared Nightsong and embraced the beliefs of Selune, Viconia demands that the player surrender Shadowheart. If the player refuses, Viconia and the rest of the religious community become hostile. The ensuing battle is one of the most challenging encounters in Baldur's Gate 3 due to the large number of enemies and their frequent use of Darkness and Bone Chill, which restricts movement and healing for the player's party. Area of effect spells prove effective in this situation, as do abilities or items that cause silence, and Shadowheart's special divine gift, which can only be used once.

Baldur's Gate 3's Hardest Win

The Last Light Inn is the only safe haven from the curse in the Shadow Cursed Lands, thanks to the efforts of Isobel, a cleric of Selune. However, the notorious Ketheric Thorm is determined to capture her, leading him to deploy a squad of goons. It is now the player's responsibility, along with the Harpers of the Inn, to ensure Isobel's safety. The conditions for defeating her are quite broad, as knocking her out is sufficient. Isobel's AI prompts her to run past enemies, triggering their hostile reactions.

Although the battle at Last Light Inn is not the most difficult in the game, it poses a significant challenge due to the crucial task of protecting Isobel. It is distressingly easy for her to be defeated through circumstances beyond the player's control. This can quickly spiral out of control, overwhelming players, especially if certain conditions are met. For instance, if Isobel is defeated, Last Light Inn loses all protection, resulting in everyone succumbing to the curse. As a consequence, various quests, merchants, and content become inaccessible, and all the inhabitants, except for BG3's Jaheira, turn hostile.

BG3: Saving the Gnomes at Grymforge

The Ultimate Challenges in Baldur's Gate 3: Conquer the Toughest Quests!

Upon arrival at Grymforge in the Underdark, it is discovered that True Soul Nere is trapped in a collapse and the Duergar have enlisted gnome slaves to rescue him. The passage where Nere is trapped is rapidly filling with gas, making this quest time-sensitive. Resting excessively, whether short or long, will result in Nere's demise and retribution in the form of the execution of the gnome slaves. In order to save Nere, one must navigate through Grymforge, locate and acquire powerful explosives to clear the debris. This will involve engaging in multiple fights that require the use of spell slots and other resources, while strategically managing long rests to ensure the safety of those trapped in the collapse.

Upon successfully freeing Nere and, if desired, the gnomes, a challenging battle with Nere and numerous Duergar awaits. One option to make this encounter easier is to negotiate with the treacherous Duergar before the fight, thereby dividing their forces and gaining allies on the player's side. The difficulty of this entire quest is amplified by the time constraint, the series of battles leading up to the final confrontation, the need to efficiently manage resources, and the formidable boss battle that awaits.

Baldur's Gate 3 is available on PC and PS5. An Xbox version is in development.
