Amy Duggar King did not hold back in her criticism of her uncle Jim Bob Duggar after the release of the docuseries Shiny Happy People. In a TikTok video posted on June 8, King expressed her disappointment in Jim Bob's failure to protect his daughters from a predator who was living in their home, and his subsequent attempts to cover it up. She stated that she no longer respects him and will not allow him to have a relationship with her child, as she is committed to protecting her family at all costs.

King referred to her cousin Josh Duggar, the eldest son of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, who faced accusations of molesting several underage girls during his teenage years in 2015. Jill and Jessa, two of the victims, defended their family in an interview with Megyn Kelly, stating that they had forgiven their brother. During Josh's trial for receiving and possessing child pornography in November 2021, Jim Bob claimed to have little recollection of the details of Josh's alleged admission of guilt. Despite his defense, Josh was found guilty in November 2022 and sentenced to 12.5 years in prison.

King did not believe Jim Bob's claim that he was unaware of the abuse happening in his own home. She highlighted the fact that the abuse was hidden and pointed out that Jim Bob claimed not to recall the abuse when he was put on the stand. King questioned how a father could forget about his own daughters' abuse and expressed concern over Jim Bob's mental state. She felt the need to protect her son from him as she believed something was not right.

Jill Duggar has expressed regret over how she handled the 2015 scandal involving her brother Josh in the recently released docuseries, Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets. She stated that she believes victims should always be protected and cared for, and that she felt obligated to downplay her brother's behavior for the sake of her family. Jill acknowledged that she is not proud of her actions.

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar released a statement on the day of Shiny Happy People's debut, denouncing the show as a "sad" attempt to harm their family. They criticized the documentary for its sensationalized and derogatory portrayal of numerous individuals. The couple maintains that love in a private setting is the best way to repair damaged relationships or reconcile differences. They expressed their continued love for every member of their family and their unwavering faith in Jesus, which has provided them with strength, comfort, and purpose throughout both the triumphs and trials of life.
