Amy Duggar, 36, has been an outspoken opponent of her cousin Josh Duggar, especially in light of his numerous scandals. In an interview with Vanity Fair released on Wednesday, June 28, Amy, known for being the contrasting figure among Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar's 19 children, discussed her perception as a "rebellious" member of the family. She recalled discovering, along with the rest of the world, in 2015 that Josh, now 35, had committed acts of molestation against several girls, including his own sisters, during his teenage years. Amy expressed her dismay at learning this news indirectly, rather than from her own relatives.

"I was furious," she recounted. "I felt like my worth was dismissed...as if they had no intention of safeguarding me. They consciously avoided disclosure, persisting in preserving their exclusive cocoon."

Amy cited the Duggar family's unwavering conservative principles and affiliation with the Institute in Basic Life Principles as contributing factors to the prolonged concealment of the scandal. "Hidden truths flourish within the IBLP. They deliberately conceal things," she asserted.

Josh faced accusations, which prompted him to publicly apologize. However, he was never charged with any crimes. Instead, his parents decided to send him to a faith-based counseling camp. It was there that Amy boldly confronted him, expressing her disappointment and questioning his actions. According to Amy, Josh claimed to have known better than to engage in any physical behavior with her.

Amy accused Josh of being influenced by IBLP teachings to assert dominance over girls who he believed would remain silent. She stated that IBLP highly esteems the firstborn child, particularly if they are a son, as they are seen as the carrier of the family name and values.

She further explained that when someone is constantly praised and their secrets are kept hidden, they develop a sense of immunity to the consequences of their actions. Consequently, they become desensitized to the realities of the world and the law. Amy expressed sadness at how far Josh took this belief, thinking he could avoid repercussions for anything he did.

Amy openly criticized Josh's parents for trying to conceal his misconduct, expressing her disgust by saying, "The belief that one person's worth surpasses another's is utterly repugnant."

Ever since the debut of TLC's 19 Kids and Counting in 2008, the Duggar family has been constantly in the public eye. However, due to the scandal involving Josh, the reality series came to an end in 2015. Nevertheless, the network maintained its collaboration with the Duggars through a spinoff show called Counting On.

Counting On, the reality TV show, came to an end in 2021 after 11 seasons, as TLC officially ended its association with the Duggar family. This decision was made in the wake of Josh Duggar's arrest for possession and distribution of child pornography. In May 2022, Josh Duggar received a prison sentence of over 12 years and is currently incarcerated at FCI Seagoville in Texas. Recently, Amy and her cousin Jill Duggar shared their experiences on reality TV in a four-part docuseries called "Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets," which premiered on Prime Video on June 2. Jim Bob and Michelle, however, strongly criticized the docuseries in a detailed statement.

"We firmly believe that the most effective approach to healing strained relationships or resolving conflicts lies in the power of love within a private sphere," expressed the individuals through their family website. "Our love for each and every member of our family remains unwavering, and we vow to make every effort in fostering positive connections with each individual."
