Nezuko Kamado, a beloved character in the Demon Slayer series, is adored by the entire fanbase for her unique qualities. She consistently supports her brother in crucial missions, playing a vital role in saving the lives of demon hunters. Her assistance during the Entertainment District arc prevented Tanjiro, Tengen, Inosuke, and Zenitsu from succumbing to their injuries sustained in their battle against Daki and Gyutaro.
While one would typically expect such a character to possess high intelligence, Nezuko seems to defy that expectation. Although she displays combat intelligence and utilizes her abilities effectively, her demeanor in the anime series resembles that of a child. This has led to speculation as to why this is the case.
Nezuko demonstrates infantile behavior due to her body's efforts to build up sun immunity, a concept thoroughly explored in the anime and manga series. Please note that the latter part of this text contains minimal spoilers from the Demon Slayer manga series.
Demon Slayer: A look into Tamayo’s letter to Tanjiro
In the letter, Tamayo mentioned that Nezuko played a vital role in returning the boy to his original form.
“For a while now, I've been pondering why Nezuko hasn't reverted back to her former self and instead remains in a youthful state. There's a possibility that something else has become a higher priority for her, something more crucial than reclaiming her identity. Tanjiro, it's merely a hypothesis, but I believe Nezuko might soon develop the ability to withstand sunlight."
During the Swordsmith Village arc, Tanjiro and his companions faced off against the Upper Moon demons. Throughout the battle, Nezuko, who was still a demon at the time, remained by their side.
As the sun gradually ascended, Tanjiro found himself compelled to aid the struggling villagers. In a moment of dread, his greatest fear materialized when his sister was unexpectedly exposed to sunlight. Yet, contrary to the fate that awaited other demons, Nezuko managed to survive.

Tamayo's exceptional intellect once again proves invaluable for the Demon Slayer Corps, as her theory is proven correct: Nezuko successfully acquires immunity to sunlight by the conclusion of the Swordsmith Village arc.
Tamayo played a vital role in assisting the Demon Slayer Corps in their battles against the Upper Moon demons and ultimately Kibutsuji Muzan, even though she was not prominently featured in the anime series.
In the Swordsmith Village arc, Nezuko's journey as a demon comes to an end. Thanks to the immunity provided by Tamayo, this cherished character spends her days recuperating and diligently consuming the medicines that Tamayo diligently prepares and sends on a regular basis.
Despite her transformation into a demon, Nezuko displayed remarkable resilience, clinging to her humanity with unwavering determination. Throughout the manga series, she persevered and ultimately managed to reclaim her humanity. Keep an eye out for further updates on anime and manga developments in 2023.
