Starfield, Bethesda Studios' upcoming release, is generating anticipation as the developer's first new IP in over 25 years. This expansive RPG promises players the opportunity to explore vast planets in a full-scale galactic adventure. While Bethesda has a history of incorporating familiar elements into their games, such as Elder Scrolls and Fallout, fans are curious as to whether Starfield will continue this trend. Despite the extensive glimpses of the game's world and gameplay shared by Bethesda, some fans have expressed concern about the absence of certain popular features, raising doubts about the overall experience. With its highly anticipated release in 2023, Starfield is poised to be one of the year's major titles.
Starfield Carries On Various Bethesda Traditions
Bethesda's Fallout and Elder Scrolls franchises have a reputation for incorporating recurring features and hidden surprises, and Starfield is no exception. The game's multiple showcases have already confirmed the return of some significant gameplay elements. Players can expect extensive character creation options, the presence of various factions to align with, and the opportunity for romantic interactions with close companions. Additionally, Starfield will introduce assignable traits that not only deepen a player's backstory but also have tangible effects within the game.
Among the many character options in Starfield, there is a trait called "Hero Worshipped" that pays tribute to a beloved yet comical easter egg from The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. By choosing this trait for their character, players will encounter a character known as the "Adoring Fan." This character, infamous for their initial appearance in Oblivion, would approach the player after achieving the title of Grand Champion in the Arena. Expressing deep admiration, the "Adoring Fan" would request to follow the player. While some players would accept out of sympathy, many held disdain for this character. Interestingly, Bethesda has chosen to include this easter egg in Starfield, much to the confusion of fans who expected a different, more popular and practical recurring easter egg item from the studio.
Starfield Has Yet To Confirm the Return of Sweet Rolls
Earlier this month, Bethesda unveiled a list of food items that will appear in Starfield. Surprisingly, Sweet Rolls, a beloved and iconic item from both the Fallout and Elder Scrolls series, were not included in the reveal. These delectable treats first made an appearance in Elder Scrolls: Arena, where they were used as part of a question to determine the player's starting class. The question then reappeared in Daggerfall and Morrowind, and from there, Sweet Rolls made their way into the Fallout series, where players were given one on their character's birthday in Fallout 3. In Skyrim, Sweet Rolls served as consumable items. The mention of Sweet Rolls in a dialogue by an NPC in Skyrim also gave rise to a popular internet meme. The meme involves a soldier saying, "Let me guess, someone stole your sweet roll?"
As the release of Starfield approaches, fans eagerly await to see if the missing features will be addressed. While Bethesda has been sharing smaller details on social media, there are larger concerns that have yet to be addressed, such as accessibility. With less than two months left until the game's release, it is unlikely that there will be many major updates from the team. However, fans of Starfield are hopeful that the missing elements, including Sweet Rolls, will be included in the final release. While Sweet Rolls may not be the most essential item, their inclusion holds importance to a significant number of Bethesda's devoted players.
Starfield launches September 6 for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
